We used to have a means for members to award other members for their good advice, but people being people, it was eventually abused. But you're right, it would be a good idea in theory.

Yes, but not just for quantity. Quality is a much more important issue. Those who achieve quantity get a mention in the lefthand side of the listings in the "top posters" pane. Anyone can post 200 per day and blither on about anything and everything from how many "Daves" there are in their club to what the weather is like in the Mendips.
Inciteful, relevant and well thought out argument is worth so much more.

I would also give extra points for good spelling and grammar

number of posts has always been recognised. Quality is pretty subjective, the old rep system was about as near as your going to get, but as said did get a bit silly in the end. Thing is we're all chums here aren't we? If I want to pat someone on the back for just making me smile, rather than giving me the equation that explains why my arrows don't hit the x every time, then I'm gonna pat. tough.

Oh well, that counts me out then. Thank goodness my basic spelling and grammar skills make me tolerable on the forum.

"the lefthand side of the listings"
Sorry, I just couldn't resist... Last time I checked, "left hand" was two separate words.
