Murray, you know I'd attend. I'll even help you organise and run it, if you like!

I'm as south as you get (Surrey) and I thought it was great!! I really enjoy getting out and about meeting new people and seeing different clubs and venues. AIUK events offer something that no other forum offers - it brings together archers from all over the UK! How cool is that?!

Trust me, if had I a car, I would've driven. My original plan down to the last minute was to go by train until Tarkwin stepped in and offered me a lift. I went to NoCo (Leeds) by train. Not owning a car is very difficult, so I rely on public transport to go most places, including my club, to which I ride the bus.

I appreciate the Joke, Radar , but have to say that the north is a fairly big place and some of the participants from up north still had to travel 200 or so miles to participate.

I think that is the issue at hand Clicki, you like a small number of others are prepared to make the long journeys to these events - I think the original post from Big Boy Blue was to try and see if we could relocate it to a location which makes the shortest journies for the majority of people.....

Instead of asking why did one or two people make the long journey maybe the question should be why did many more others not ?

We're never going to please everyone but trying to please the majority is probably the best option we have.

As has been observed, I drove there and back and will do it again. I was down to shoot at NoCo, but had to cancel at the last minute due to unforeseen circumstances.

Yes distance is an obstacle, but by no means insurmountable, particularly if there are two or more drivers in one vehicle.

A weekend event would be fab, partying Friday, shooting Saturday (followed by more partying) and recovering Sunday .

I was working on that weekend - in Garching, Gemany. I think it was really unfair not to relocate the entire American event to somewhere about 30 km east of Munich so I could take part.

AIUK started life as an internet forum. Of course it still is, but due to the efforts of Tarkwin, Cakemeister and Dave it is now something unique; a forum yes, but a forum with a 'live' element which looks set to grow and grow. How it evolves over the next few years will be interesting, but I can assure you of one thing; we are seeing the start of something that will change how archery is run in this country, and being in at the beginning is exciting. I can't believe that people are prepared to start carping about how far it is to travel to something that has been laid on for everyone's benefit by the hard work of a (very) few. If I hadn't had to work, I would have been at the American - even if I had to walk there with my bow on my back.

If you look at a map of the UK, it's about 840 miles from the tip of Cornwall to the north of Scotland. If you go further north the the Hebrides where we have at least one member, it's a damn sight further. Ergo - someone is going to have to travel long distance wherever an event is held.

If you want to attend an event - go. If it's too much of a fag - don't bother. But please don't complain because it was too much effort. It's your choice.

And Murray - work permitting - save a place for me on the shooting line at your Scottish event. I'll be there!
