Next Years American Venue

Well its seems like a great day was had by all but the Southern contingent was not very well represented, which may have been in part to the long distance to reach the venue.

Can I propose that for next year the venue is moved to a location more central too everyone. The event is supposed to be for all AIUK and reality it turned out to have a very high Northern bias.

I would also suggest that part of the reason why Steve did not shoot so well was that he had a 6 hours journey to get there. And he had to come home so god knows what time poor Steve got in.

Perhaps our members who are from the Midland area could put forward some possible locations for the shoot.

Just a humble suggestion

Take a look at this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centre_...United_Kingdom

At the risk of being facetious the venue was pretty central (if anything too far south)

Maybe instead of using the geographical centre we could use the AIUK Frappr map showing members locations and then chose somewhere central to the user number spread ?

http://www.frappr.com/aiuk

This way we can keep the largest number of members happy

That sounds like the most logical way to do it, as no-one will be able to say it was anything but AIUK bias

And perhaps the fatigue in Steve's shoulders from driving affected his shooting, I'd just like t thank him again for the amazing effort in being part of practically every facet of the day, from organiser to transporter to competitor.

And generally being a bl***y nice bloke

Cheers Steve, to your good health

Exclamation A few things to remember!

Please don't forget that this year's Co's and VPG were an experiment. Also keep in mind that P&S is Dave's club and this is his website, so it seems quite fair that it was held there. P&S were very gracious to allow us take over their club on Saturday.

Yes, Steve did drive a lot on Saturday, but do not forget that Murray drove all the way from Bo'ness in Scotland and had just as long a drive as the southern contingent, therefore making it quite central.

I'd also like to point out that there is a great deal of time and expense that went into planning the American (as well as SoCo and NoCo). If we are to expand these events next year, we will need many more members volunteering to host or help run the events.

For as many southerns complaining that Preston was too far, there were as many northerners complaining that there were too many southern events. Therefore, I want to clarify that the SoSo events are not OFFICIAL AIUK events, but rather AIUK members getting together informally to shoot. There are no rounds shot, no raffles, no awards. Only Co* events have the official AIUK seal of approval. The fact is, the southern contingent wanted to get together again because they enjoy each other's company.

We will not be able to please everyone, but we will do our best to try to. Unfortunately, we ran out of time and were unable to have a moderator meeting after The American. However, we will be meeting sometime soon and the Co* events for next year will be discussed. THEN we will have a better idea of where and when we will have Co* events.

Of course, we always welcome members' opinions. It's important to know how people feel about these things, but remember we're doing our best!

Cheers

Lets put one thing straight, the planning and effort that goes into all AIUK events is superb, whether they are official or unofficial and I was in no way critising it in the post. So I am surprised you felt you had to make the statement.

I would like to hear Dave's opinion about this being "his" site and what you inferred by that. I woud hope that Dave looks at AIUK as a place where liked minded people can meet and openly chat about things within certain guidlines.

I take your point about Murray but if You discount him (No offence Murray) and Steve with everybody who went with him, whats left must be viewed in a different light and I would go on to suggest this does not fully reflect the membership distribution of AIUK.

I am looking at this thread with a little bit of dismay, does it matter were the shoots are held? Personally I drove down from the North of Northumberland, a 6 hr drive due to weather and traffic. I would do the same again. Geographically the venue was pretty central. I live very north, that is my problem. If the venue was in the midlands I would still have gone, I go for the shooting not the distance or lack of it. I am sure that if someone was to find another venue then it ciuld be held there. Come on people, the venue was on offer and Dave took the offer up, good on you Dave.
Remember, you cant please all of the people all of the time.
If you want a venue in North Northumberland then that will suit me down to the ground (no travelling)
