I share your confusion. I've never discovered the reason why 10s or better are defined as golds, but 9s are not, but them's the rules.

I think I've got a "beginner's guide to shooting their first tournament" somewhere that I created for my club novices... I'll post it if it might be useful.

That would be very helpful, ta Murray, as it seems that indoor faces aren't as intuitive as outdoor.
