Just my 2p...

RE: catering

The restaurant we'd deal with has very good food and would mean that no one has to give up shooting time to deal with food as the restaurant will lay it out and clean up afterwards. Also remember that if you went to a pub or restaurant, you'd likely pay the same amount for lunch. Some people are coming from long distances and staying in hotels and may not be able to provide their usual homecooked food for AIUK spreads as many of us have experienced at the local shoots.

One more thing...I think the menus aren't set in stone. Just there to give an example.

Knowing me, I've probably missed something but; the menu concerns Saturday Lunchtime, right? What about Sunday? Is there a group Saturday evening meal somewhere or are we expected to do our own thing?

Unofficially, I think many of us are descending upon the restaurant of the Travel Inn on saturday night.

We starve sunday

Smile A Birthday Party!!

As we (or the majority of us) will be there on Saturday shooting a Double Portsmouth, and as AIUK events traditionally involve a spread of food (for those of you who may not have attended an AIUK event before, the food is almost as much reason to attend as the shooting!). As the club is not centrally located, there isn't an option to down bows and go out. Also keep in mind that this is the first event of its kind for AIUK, as well as celebrating our second birthday and the success of our forum. Therefore, we thought it a nice idea to have a nice lunch catered at the club to celebrate!

It was difficult to find a venu for the evening meal that could accommodate archers and their non-shooting partners as one big group. It also would've cost much more than lunch buffet. Therefore, as most people are staying at the Travel Inn, we thought that would be an ideal hub for people to either have an evening meal or meet for drinks later.

As for Sunday, we'll be out and about in the field and woods shooting, so catering would prove more difficult. Also, we thought that those travelling distances to go home may not want to draw out the day if they need to drive. I know some people are staying overnight Sunday, but the majority will be leaving after the shooting/awards that afternoon.

This is not your normal shoot. There may be some of you who haven't been to an AIUK event before, so be warned - they are very social, very fun and very relaxed. Wear what you like, shoot a bit, meet new people.

I realise that people are spending money on the shoot, accommodation and travel. And as I've said before, hotel rooms may not provide adequate food storage and you may have to travel into Macclesfield to find a grocery store.

I truly hope that those of you attending want this event to be as successful and special as we do.

Thanks for that Leigh and I'm sure that the newbies to the AIUK socials will appreciate what you have said. There is nothing worse than feeling like a bacon sandwich at a jewish wedding reception just because you didn't know what the format was like, especially if it is your first one!!
