Should I shoot this weekend???

Hmm, I've got a bit of a dilemma for this weekend.

I've entered Bronte fita, and in many ways I'd like to go but...
I've only shot twice this year, don't have any sight marks and probably don't have the fitness to finish...

on the plus side, it'd be the start of me shooting again properly, and i'll see lots of lovely people that I haven't seen in a year!

I was hoping that shooting this would be the necessary kick-start to getting me training and competitive again, but I do wonder whether I'd be doing more harm than good, especially if the weather's crap.

Would be interested in peoples suggestions? Ordinarily I'd never go to a competition without some preparation...

Shoot as long as you don't think you will be holding back the rest of the crowd. Don't know your level of shooting but if your out of practice expect to possibly be digging a few arrows out of the timber

I would say go for it, if you are not up to your usual level just enjoy the event and don't worry about the result. A little rain doesn't hurt.

With no pressure to compete to win - (as it sounds like you've already decided you'll do badly to me) - you may be very surprised how well you do!
There's no prep for competition like competition itself.
Go shoot - have fun - get your sightmarks from the competition- use it as practice - pack up when you're done!
Can't see how any of that is 'unfair to others'?

can't you arrange to get some at least , sightmarks beforehand? some of those sightmark estimator programs are pretty close that you'll only need 2 or 3 marks proper to 'guess' others.

Go for it, if you're able to see it as preparation rather than serious competition and as an opportunity to get sight marks, it'll be worth it. If you find you're struggling, don't go back for day 2.

Have fun and you may well surprise yourself.

Go for it Claire! Judging by last time, you'll probably get a medal even if you treat it as practice.

I'm shooting at Banchory on the 13th , and I'm using that as practice and also to get my sight marks for the next weekend, at Linwood.

Besides, the only place I can get to practice is at shoots...

I shoot regularly - on average once every three months!

Nobody, apart form the professionals, probably ever truly prepares well enough for competitions. I know other things cropping up has meant I've been totally unprepared for the big shoots. If you've entered it, shoot it as a competition, and only drop out if you are in danger of injuring yourself. Just also try to have fun.

To be honest, i think everyone at the shoot will be treating it as practise given the current weather!
