Hunting with bows

were it not illegal under the Deer Act 1991, would you partake in hunting deer with bows?

please do not construe this as a personal endorsement of hunting or animal cruelty in any form

No! I see no reason for doing so. However some people do. A person I used to know used to kill dear in this country as part of a culling process. Apparently Dear can starve them selves to death by eating them selves out food. he used to shoot adult male deer every year to keep the numbers down. he did this with a 7.62 rifle and scope. Shot to the chest, instant death. Where as a bow could inflict pain and suffering if we missed and hit a none kill zone. But we all have different standards and frames of reference, I fit into the " animals are to be looked at not shot at " category. And with regard to culling any animal, this is normally done for the benefit of mankind, however mankind is the biggest pest on mother earth. Who are we to play God?

The only reason i dont like forms of hunting are...

I think animals should be killed instantly, not always possible with a bow. Making animals suffer for fun is not cool...

Killing things for fun is also not cool. Life is not cheap whatever your genetic code is...

Killing for food is morally ok by me, perhaps killing for the enviromental balance is also ok, but in the most humane way possible, I just fear a bow is not that.

I've voted "Yes - if the need arose", but that would be a pretty extreme need in my case.

Like Barry, If I had to do it I'd prefer to use the most efficient and instantly lethal weapon possible for killing an animal for food.

I eat meat, including venison, so it would be pretty hypocritical of me to have a problem with deer hunting. I've shot a good few game birds, too.

I'd prefer to hunt deer with a rifle since it's an instant kill (rather than the 10 to 30 seconds a good hit with an arrow takes to kill), and I doubt I could ever develop the skill to get within archery range of a deer.

No

I would be too worried about never getting my arrows back.

I have to admit that the cats at Eccles Archery Club are living dangerously when they leave muddly footprints all over your car.

I would hunt if I needed to for food, but wouldn't hunt otherwise. I find the idea of hunting for fun disturbing, and wonder about people who do this. I have no problems with hunting to put food on the table.
