I know that area a bit BE - where are you exactly?? I used to work a lot over that way. We were chatting to Slowhand today about going to Lilleshall, it will certainly be on the cards!!

Didn't slowhand get his new bow from a new shop there?? He said they don't carry much stock - that sounds like he should've gone to Aardvark Archery

Nearly forgot - I used to merchandise for Boyes there!

Yes I did get my new bow from a shop in Guisborough.Yes the shop may be a little small (for now) but giant trees from little accorns etc. What is'nt small is the knwledge and friendlyness of the people who run it. Pete and Judy have lived and breathed archery for many years and are both qualified coaches, and it's entirely due to them that I have enjoyed some sucess in the sport. It's one of the few shops I know where you can call in,have a cup of coffee and a natter and not feel under pressure to buy something, you never feel rushed and unlike some other shops Pete would never sell you something that wasn't suitable. You can also be sure that anything you do buy will be set up to perfection.

Bald Eagle didnt mean to sound argumentative wat i meant is if all the tournaments held in one place then theoretically they should be run better all equipment in one place all facilities can be taylor made to suit and as for central to me bearing in mind i dont even know where the place is yet.

I'm not too fussed that the tournaments are at Lilleshall. However, I'd be much more inclined to do more shoots there if the facilities were better and if you could get there by public transport. That's the problem with having the national sports centre central to everyone - it's not central to any PT. My 7 hour trip home to York from the national indoors last year was... erm... less than fun.

In the last AUK, they mentioned that there is a possibility of arranging funding to get a purpose-built hall for archery. The field for outdoor tournaments rarely gets used for anything other than archery but they could do with a 40m x 60m hall for indoor shoots!

I guess we must be spoilt with Aardvark Have been in for a cuppa before and bought nothing, and was made to feel very welcome. Lez has also talked me out of buying something expensive, and suggested much cheaper (and much more suitable) alternatives. Plus the smell of leather in that shop is lovely (Mmmm) and watching him make the quivers etc is always fascinating... lovely to watch a true craftsman at work
We're lucky to have such good retailers in our respective areas of the country!

Anyway, back to topic... I'm not overly fussed with Lilleshall as a venue, though the halls are ok to stay in and reasonably priced, the facilities for camping aren't great. The field is nice though. My favourite venues have been Lichfield and Andover. Just wish we could have Andovers field and facilities in the middle of the country

Would it be practical to host a National anywhere other than Lilleshall, merely from a logistics point of view (much though I would like to see it)? I have only been to Lilleshall on a personal improvement course, never to shoot, but from what I hear there are a lot of bosses and stands needed for a big event. If, for example, one of the outdoor Nationals went round the regions, could it be supported without moving equipment around in large quantities, or borrowing from more than one club?

Perhaps it might be possible to put a National on the road by moving the necessary equipment from and to Lilleshall by truck?

It would be great if the events travelled around different venues, but the logistics would probably prove too much and make it inpractical.

As far a lilleshall is concerned I hate the place, I dont have any concrete reasons why, its just one of those places that doesnt feel right, I have never shot really poorly there (or really well), just one of those things I guess.

So im for bringing back Stoneleigh, LOL I sound like an old git now.......
