Thoroughly agree John, if we want to compete on world level, we have to have "academy" type venues, equipped with all facilities and coaches to hand to assist as and when required. I've said this for years. Picture the scene, turn up at the venue, swipe yor card, enter, set your gear up, shoot for as long as you want to, sort out problems with the coach, have a coffee in the on site cafe, sit a while and watch the other archers shooting, go to the on site shop, try some new equipment, spend a few quid, BLISS!!!

What can I say? More like minded people needed please, let's lobby G.N.A.S. and get this going!!

First things first; just getting a field suitable for tournament shooting (say 200 by 200 yards) would be a good start. A shooting hall could follow, if the funds could be amassed. I do like the idea of full shooting facilities and a card swipe system, however. ![]() I might drop an email to GNAS (cc'ed to the Archery UK editors) on the subject when I have a moment.

Farmers up here are selling land as if it's going out of fashion! surely it's not that expensive for a few acres?

My knowledge of Lilleshall is limited to cricket but: One venue- there isn't enough money in archery to do more than make one facility better. Build on what's there & make it excellent. If there was more money however you'd want to have centres of excellence north, south, east & west ![]() Pete

The problem is buying land that can be used appropriately. I saw an advert for a great piece of land around here for a very reasonable price, but on looking at the small print I saw it could hardly be used for anything other than putting sheep on or walking across. My concern is more for the costs of setting up a shooting hall, but I do think the funds to buy shooting fields should be obtainable. If the GNAS were to concentrate on something important like this instead of whether that chap on target 28 is wearing olive trousers instead of green, I'd be more willing to actively participate in the society.

| I live in the North East near to Redcar so the drive to Lilleshall is a bit of a drag. But for me shooting at Lilleshall is something really special and well worth the cost and time, I still get a tingle down my spine when I drive through the entrance and through the grounds. As a shooting venue I think it is one of the best (no strange winds, sun in the eyes, distractions etc). In the Summer my son and I camp and yes the facilitites are pretty rough (although no worse than many others) but you can always use the main buildings' showers and toilets. For the indoors we stay in the halls-superb accomodation for the price. Newport is a nice little place and only a few minutes away, a good chippy and chinese what more could you want!
