Ohh Stockholm. Without a doubt the nicest city I've ever been to

As for smoke free pubs. Its much nicer up here in Scotland since the ban on smoking in public places came in.

Must say as a smoker that a ban would not bother me one bit.

I usally try to prevent my un-healthy habit passing onto others by moving away from the shooting line which is the right thing to do. ( well thats how I see it )

I also remove any tab ends when im finished and when im sure they are not going to set a bin on fire, dispose of them ( Thats a differant story, silly police man )

Should really quit and save a few pennys.

Maybe a total ban would give me the kick up the ar*e, that i need !!!!!!

After we've banned the smoking, we can then ban TEA, then after the tea we can ban COFFEE, then after the coffee we can ban ANY drinks with SUGAR in it.
THINK ABOUT WHAT WILL BE NEXT. DEMOCRATIC ? i thought Big Brother was only on channel 4.

Hmm a well constructed argument.

Tea is good for you. Coffee and sugar are fine in moderation. Whats more if someone's having a cuppa near me I'm not forced to share their drink. The same can't be said for smoking in an enclosed space.

As for the threat to democracy I presume you are talking about a national ban rather than smoking being banned at archery competitions. I don't see how a smoking ban voted for in parliament is undemocratic. In fact the opposite is true. If you don't like the way your MP voted on the smoking ban then vote for someone else next time. If they voted in favour of the ban then they agree with you. Democracy in action.

However, if you meant banning smoking at competitions would be undemocratic. A UK wide ban on smoking at competitions would presumably be voted on at a GNAS AGM and would therefore be democratic. If it is banned on a shoot by shoot basis then just don't go to shoots that ban smoking and vote with your feet.

Just because you don't agree with a smoking ban doesn't mean other people should have to agree with you. That's democracy.

PS I'm all in favour of a ban on smoking in public spaces like the one that we (well most of us) in Scotland are currently enjoying. However, I would not necessarily be in favour of a total ban.

The slight difference being that they don't have the same ananastic effect upon both the user and other people in the vicinity. I wouldn't mind smoking if I didn't have to inhale it

But the point is we shouldn't be told what we can and cant do. Health wise fair enough, a smoking zone, like a non smoking zone could be set up which wouldn't effect other non smokers. But to be told this is what you are going to do, is not on.
The other point i was making about tea, coffee and drinks is that they all contain enhancing chemicals - caffiene, sugar etc. These effect our daily performance. You cant ban something people dont like and leave other things alone that they do. Thats selective elimination.

I personally find people smoking in my vicinity highly objectionable. It offends me almost as much as people fa**ing in my vicinity.

I, too, am thoroughly enjoying the smoking ban in enclosed public places - it makes going out for a meal so much more pleasurable.

But back to archery - providing the smoking area is far enough from the tent and shooting lines, I think that's fair. As for nicotine, or the act of smoking being some kind of aid, I don't know of any studies which have shown this to be the case.

I think smoking is like most things, there are two types of smokers:

those that are considerate and those that are not, it is the latter that upset the cart for the former. As a non (ex) smoker, I don't often moan about the smoke unless someone is blowing it into my direct path or smoking when I am eating.

I'm not sure if a total ban is called for but consideration for non-smokers is.

Angry

I class myself as bieng very considerate where my smoking habbits are concerned, (yes i do smoke) as i do try not too offend any non smokers (and yes it is a disgusting habbit one that i wish i had never started).
Yes to a total ban on indoor shoots & no to outdoor shoots but nowhere near the shooting line.
As for the comments from some non smokers why not just put us(Smokers) up at the target buts and shoot us.
it is my choice to smoke and yours not too, i do try not to force you to smoke by moving away from you.
so you can put your soap boxes away for now.
