I used to get most of my coaching from a fellow club member (former coach) and also i consulted a book ever now and again (total archery).
But recently i was invited to county squad training (not actually in the team yet) and i found it to be extremely interesting and most helpful.
I was being coached by a level 2 GNAS coach (i think) and they were very knowledgable.

My sources are a mix of AIUK discussions, friends/clubmates and self-taught.

Coaches? I've heard of them. Not sure what they look like, though I've seen more than my fair share of club members who think they ought to be made qualified coaches, but without having to do any of the pesky qualifications. Actually, I've had a real coach appraise me for 5 minutes once, which then saw me break 500 indoors for the first time.

We are fortunate to have 2 coaches who attend most club evenings and we have one of our members English_Archer who is embarking on the quest for his coaching badge

Generally in Lincolnshire we are lucky to a have a few people spread around the County who are keen to push coaching courses. I know Grimsby AC recently had a very succesful graduation. The County also runs a few coaching days spread throughout the year where any GNAS member can go along for a days coaching at a reasonable cost.

I'd never had any coaching at all, not even a beginners course, until I decided earlier this year to train as a coach myself. During this course I've had tips off quite a few experienced coaches and the fellow course candidates. Nothing that would amount to a proper coaching relationship, but some very welcome advice. Only trouble is, being a coach has had a negative effect on my own shooting, so I've not been able to put this advice to use!

Anyway, there's a coaching weekend at Wetherby on the weekend of the 3rd and 4th of November. It's open to all Yorkshire archers - I don't know whether it's open to others. I've signed up and should finally get a serious coaching session.

It's a difficult choice between self-taught and none of the above, but I guess if I'm honest it's mainly from lots and lots of different books and internet resources e.g. videos with a total of three hours of real quality coaching thrown in (also no beginners course). This during my 10 years of archery.

like jumile and moo-mop

i voted 'self-taught' but its more accurately a mix of books / video / clubmates / AIUK threads & chatroom discussions / whatever other scraps of information i can get my paws on

See you there TJ
I have to say that I have recently had a considerable time spent on me by an ex-GB archer and ex-coach. It has proved exceptionally helpful, especially now that I am retired and have time to spare ... well I thought I had but ...

Ooops! I forgot. Just don't bring your flamethrower Tim, it's not GNAS approved.

From watching those that shoot better than me mostly.
From reading the best of the books so that I can understand a little of what they're doing.
From praising others strong points and asking- its amazing how freely decent archers will impart their own understanding, if approached respectfully.
From videos- trying to emulate the best...Im in love with Yun Mi Jin I could watch her all day.
From AIUK.

I'd love a proper coach, just cant find a good free one...and can't afford what a good one is worth!
So how do I get an invitation to county training?
