| What Bosses does your club use? With a couple of interesting threads touching on the subject of bosses I thought a poll would give a better idea of what the majority of clubs are using - as if we need to ask ![]()

| we've (UWAC) got 13 Ergetec straw bosses & two Foam Super-butts that are on their way out, (we are current getting compounders and high-draw-weight recurves to shoot the super-butts to pieces so we can throw them out; they take up too much space) the sad reality is that we will be left with straw bosses & even if we had more space to store better bosses, it would take about 4years to shoot out the straw ones and replace them with foam. two local clubs have a higher proportion of foam, but they're rich and also leave bosses out all year. Cheltenham has entirely straw bosses indoor & outdoor, but are mainly longbows & low draw weight beginners & such | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| We use foam bosses indoors and straw bosses for outdoors. We have a couple of compound archers in the club now so we may consider investing in a foam damage boss for outdoors also.

| same club as Insanity Rocks, all our indoor and field targets are layered foam, made by the club using banding machine and wooden frames made on site. We have a pile of 3d's that we take out for fun shoots and the occasional 3d round, but no straw targets at all.

| Outdoor we use danage foam for longer distances / heavier draw weights and straw bosses for shorter distances and juniors. Indoors we have layered foam bosses which are new this year. | |||||||||||||||||

| We currently have 6 layered foam bosses, bought 18month to a 2 year ago (Uller will be able to confirm - he bought them!!!). Not had any problems with them, granted we don't have anyone who is really going to punish the same spot over and over again all night, plus we only shoot once a week. I have shot some comps on Straw bosses - didn't like them at all, especially in the wet. At one comp it was taking at least 2 or 3 folk to pull my arrows!!! Also shot the Danage bosses, which were nice - very lightweight (inc. the stand), but with great stopping power.

| All straw bosses - older ones are egertec - newer ones are the Italian ones, which we bought for the competitons we run

| Outdoors we use a combination of straw and layered foam. Straw for the recureve archers and when they become shot out, they are good for the longbow folk. The hard straw bosses are not popular when new; arrow pulling, even from moderate weight recurves is such hard work that nobody wants to use them. We have layered foam for the compound archers. They are heavy and take up much more storage space, but you can pull arrows out easily enough and members who have Protours have suffered no damage with them. Indoors we use Danage and layered foam. IMHO boss technology has not kept pace with other developments in archery. Robin | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Forgot to mention in previous post.... All our bosses were recently re-banded and are now like new!!!! With the layered foam, at least you can take them apart & shuffle to layers about to extend the life!!!!
