When I needed bi-focals, Neil Wakelin's sister was my optician. She recommended that I should NOT to have varifocals as they do not work very well away from the cente line of the lens. Like most spectical wearing archers, I tend to look through the corner of the lens near the bridge of my nose when shooting.
Last time I visited the optician, I was told (by a different optician) that lens technology had improved and that varifocals would be fine for archery. After struggling for nearly a year with the varifocals, I have given up and gone back to my old prescription bi-focals for shooting.
IMHO, spectical wearing archers should not use varifocal lenses - stick to the old bi-focals.
One of our club members has a special pair of glasses with the optical centre of the lens of his aiming eye moved to the nose side. He finds them great until he forgets to change them before he drives home!

get tested every 2 yrs, get new glasses every 2 years, but dont wear them for shooting (doent feel comfortable), just aim for the fuzzy blob at the other end of the field

I too had my eyes tested recently, but don't need new glasses. A few people have mentioned the wisdom of getting regular eye tests as various health problems can be spotted; good advice. Another point is that it is illegal to drive with eyesight that doesn't reach the required standard, but as it doesn't normally deteriorate suddenly, you can find yourself on the wrong side of the law without realising it. At the worst you could fail to see something you should see, and be involved in a collision. There's no reason not to get tested regularly - especially here in Scotland where it's now free to all.
I've just read the above back and it reads as if I'm lecturing. For that I apologise, but I'm sure you get my point.

I have them tested every year as my family also has a history of Glaucoma. As I am +10 +10.5 I get a voucher giving me about £5 off the price of my specs I also get the test for free.

Unfortuantely to get thin lenses with the +10 correction and to correct the other problems, I have to pay around £300 just for the lenses from a place in Germany (everywhere else has failed to get them thin enough) So the voucher doesn't go far.

I had +7 correction when I was in my 20's and they were +9/9.5 when I left the army in 96 so I know my eyes are getting progressively worse. The specialist who tests my eyes also does the DVLA reports so I am just waiting for the time when he tells me know more driving

Tested every year, after Diabetes set in. Last time but one, I needed new ones, and went for varifocals, as I had had them before. But guess where the "transition" occurs - bang on the Gold at 20 yards. Can't have contacts. Just have to make do.

Hence why i have my glasses as only single focus.

I had my eyes tested in June this year, and found out i needed glasses, and luckily(as i went the day before i left school) i only had to pay for the lenses... though my eyesight isn't that bad... i'm only on a +1 +1.25 correction for distances

I Make up about 200 pairs of Spectacles a day at my work Place, so keep getting them eye tests and buy loads of spectacles LOL!!!

I could do with a good bonus this year

I should wear glasses, but cannot get on with them for shooting, so a nice blob is what I aim at, although may go the contact lens route soon, if I can sweet talk one of my customers to sort them out for me.

we recently ran an ad campaign in relation to HD TV, you know how many peoples out there will spend £1000+ on a TV to get the HD effect, and they would n't have anywhere near the visual acuity to actually see the difference, because they haven't had an update on their prescription!!! Ha Ha, amazes me where people will scrimp money, but spend on something else.

Cheers

Joe

I wear glasses (short sighted, -6.00 in right eye and -5.75 in left) but wear contact lenses when I shoot.

Have tried shooting in my specs but my comparatively thick lenses result in a fair bit of distortion as I attempt to peek through them by my nose...

Last eye test my eyesight had actually improved though (less short sighted by about 0.50 in each eye, e.g. my right eye used to be -6.50), which was a nice surprise. One of the few benefits of being short sighted and getting older (36) according to my optician!

Never shall I cross their threshold again. We used them about 6 years ago and after the tests I needed new glasses again. Picked them up and I couldn't focus correctly but they said stick at it they may take a week or two to adjust to as the perscription had changed.

After a week of headaches and blurred vision I went back and they checked them over and said it was me as specs were fine. So I went back to the old ones and went back a week later and saw someone else who came back 5 minutes later looking very embarrassed. They'd fitted the lenses left in right and right in left for a lot of people not a problem but as I have a prism on each lense....
