Question Compound Archers. Does your nose touch the string?

I know all you recurve archers do, but it's not so clearly important for compound archers.

If I set up the drawlength of the bow so that my nose does touch the string at anchor, my overall drawlength is too long (even with a very short d-loop).

Just how important is touching your nose to the string when you have a peep sight?

My nose doesn't touch the string for either compound or recurve and it works just fine.

Thanks Erica, I know that Marcus has been made comments about not touching the string in the past. It's good to get some confirmation of that.

I think that good draw length and alignment will be more important, but I can see that it will be more difficult to keep your head position consistent.

Is head position an issue, or does the peep sight take care of that? Especially as it is further away from your eye.

My nose is not on the string with the shorter compounds I use these days. No peep either and the only problem is still me.

All depends on the size of your nose

Mine touches, always has and, unless I swap to a short a2a bow, probably always will. That said, it's not a hard contact. Same string position with a recurve BTW.

Your anchor needs to change according to the distance you are shooting unless you happen to have a bow dedicated to short distances and one for long (which is actually my preference, but not so easy with air travel luggage allowance). So good peep usage is more important and solid but flexible anchor.

Interesting. Can you explain why, and in what way, your anchor changes by distance shot. (genuine question)

Just check it out. the angle at 90m is very different to that at 18m with regards to peep height. so your anchor must be higher at shorter distance to accommodate. this will be more obvious on some set ups versus others. The difference may be just a firmer anchor feel at the shortest distance and a little floaty at the longest. I set my peep up at 70m as this is the most important distance. Some people will move their head instead of their anchor, but it isn't really advisable.
