Having said that, field is my main interest and there are far more field archers outside GNAS than there are within it. Why do you think that is?
I think that's because it's an area where GNAS actually have competition.
It would be interesting to find figures on (for example) the number of BLBS members compared to GNAS/longbow...

On the other hand, GNAS isn't likely to have any competition in the area of target archery. They are the governing body recognised by FITA/IOC, which makes it difficult for any other group to compete in that arena (since the IOC won't deal with more than one governing body, I'm told). It could be worse. IIRC the archery governing body in Germany is a general shooting sports one (rifle and pistol as well), archery is just a sub-section.

The FITA/IOC connection is why GNAS considers itself important, because that's the direction Govt/media attention goes (such as there is). Unfortunately, it can let some pompous asses get hold of the wrong end of the stick - i.e. they think they have the attention because they are important, whereas, they are only important because they are where the attention is directed...

At Savile bowmen, we shoot at a cricket, bowling, tennis and ******** club where we have an equal say in what goes on, there are 3 fileds to shoot on so we dont have much conflict with the cricketers and footballers which seems to be standard fair when archery clubs share venues.

Our indoor facilities are, a church hall for 5 bosses at about 15 yards which is ok for coaching, training and beginners plus a 10 boss school gym which we can squeeze 25mts, this is open for visiting archers.

Not so much flak Flandy, especially as I'm a field man m'self (member of both NFAS and EFAA). I shoot for the pleasure of it alone and have yet to shoot a competition, although the club holds 3 unmarked and 9 marked throughout the year (covering hunter, field, forrester and big game/3D).

Looking at the NFAS/EFAA rules - which differ slightly, hence the different shoots under different rules - I shoot HT. BUT, because the current string is 2-colour (black with green ends) then, according to at least one rule, I can't shoot in competition anyway! To me that is silly and picky!

So us fielders have our own daft rules to worry about!
