| What kind of club do you shoot with? Just wondering what kind of club you all shoot with. I used to shoot with a GNAS club, but now, if I shoot at all, it's in my garage. Let me know if I missed out a type of club.

| I'm curious to see what may be the different kinds of archery clubs in UK ! As for mine, it is a company (coming from the military word). In France, there are roughly 3 kinds of clubs : archery clubs linked to FFTA (French federation of Archery), companies also linked to FFTA by with traditionnal ways of practising (companies were created by knights of archery who still exists nowadays), archery clubs linked to FFTL (French federation of free archery) in which archers do mainly field and hunting archery. Archers of my company do mainly the following shooting styles: 18 m indoor 50 m outdoor French federal shooting Beursault (traditional shooting at 50 m) 70 m outdoor olympic shooting 4 distances FITA shooting occasionaly, field archery and 3D (we are not specifically equiped for these shooting)

![]() Reading around this board it seems there are 'clubs' and then there are 'clubs'.....I belong to a GNAS club, but as I've mentioned elsewhere on the forum, it exists in the main to allow its existing membership to carry on shooting. Incidently, when you say you shoot in your garage, is that you, the target, and the gap in between 'in' the garage? Nobody turned up yesterday morning (except me) so I came home and shot into the garage from across the forecourt for an hour or so. tel

| As I'm out of practice and I'm renting my house, I shoot in the garage. I'm worried I'm going to miss my foam target and spear the wall or door and have to pay for the damage. Plus the target isn't FITA specs. Although Old Bloke wrapped my package in a FITA target, so If I could afford a butt or a huge block of foam I could use that. But once I feel more confident, I'll move onto the drive and shoot into the garage (weather permitting). But, no, I'm not happy about not having a club to shoot with. I did my beginner's course at Royal Richmond (GNAS affiliated) and planned to join, but then I ended up coming here and there is nowhere to shoot. Well, I could shoot at the gun range if I was into 3D and wanted to hit plastic animals, which I don't. I think other states have a wider choice of clubs, and the choice in general is wider for JOAD (the US junior target archery scheme). Otherwise, what's left is university clubs. But unlike several uni clubs I've come across in the UK, this one is only open to students. I corresponded with the president of the university club in the autumn when I first got here about letting me shoot. I told her it could be a money-making scheme for their club. I'm sure there are other target shooters who are looking for a place to shoot. They could require non-students to have their own equipment and charge them twice as much or more to cover wear and tear and insurance. They weren't interested. So for now, it's the garage for me.

| I wish I could shoot in the garage click - If I attempted to I could shoot the same arrow repeatedly, as it would still be nocked when it hit the boss!

| O.K. I'm going to get some real flak now. In my opinion. there should be one and only one governing body for archery in the U.K. G.N.A.S.! In my opinion, we have too many different "societies" N.F.A.S. E.F.A.S. B.L.B.S. etc. etc. Other sports have governing bodies, why shouldn't we all come under the G.N.A.S, umbrella?. "Sorry, you can't shoot with us, You are not G.N.A.S. No, Sorry, you are not N.F.A.S. etc.etc. But when a swan or other animal gets shot with an arrow (crossbow or other)Who gets the flak? G.N.A.S.! Also, I dont't believe in Longbow clubs and longbow shoots! We promote archery in all it's forms, what would happen if we put on a compound bow only shoot? Apart from finishing sooner, not having to rake for longbow arrows, they would be up in arms at being left out!. Joking aside, It's time we addressed the situation before it gets out of hand and accidents of a serious nature happen!. |

| I find it totally bizarre that you seem to blame dodgy incidents with bows on societies other than GNAS. Sorry, but it makes no sense whatsoever. |

| And in response to Clicki, I'm a member of a target club with use of a field 365 days of the year. We have to rent a hall to shoot in during the winter unfortunately. I have also been a member of the local NFAS club and I plan to rejoin when I next get the chance. |

| John, You've got the wrong end of the stick, I'm not blaming any other society and I'm a member of N.F.A.S. as well, it's just that G.N.A.S. being the body most recognised by the press, is mentioned most when these unfortunate incidents occur. |
