Thoresby 50 Mugs. A good idea?

From the EMAS Website:
"To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Senior Inter-Counties Teams Tournament, EMAS are commissioning a limited number of commemorative white bone china mugs. "
The idea is that EMAS counties purchase mugs for their archers taking part.
The mugs are £5 each.
Some counties have already agreed to purchase mugs, others have not.
Apparently EMAS will be giving free mugs to certain officials and VIPs.
Individual archers can purchase their own mugs if they want.
Would you want to buy a mug?
Is it good use of county funds to buy mugs for their archers?

Well, I guess in a round about way, that answers my question.
Either I am the only EMAS member on here, or the rest of you just dont give a t055 what your counties do with your money

No you are not the only one, I will be shooting for Leicester & Rutland Compound team It would be nice for the county to pay so I voted that way, but As the shoot is free I will probably buy one myself if my county does not.

Which counties are shooting it is my first Thoresby.

Did notts disagree with the mugs? My personal opinion would be that the archers taking part should have to pay towards things like this, the county teams at Thoresby are quite large aren't they?

Yes, you are right, Notts (and Lincs) did disagree with the idea.
The mugs were produced anyway at what I consider to be a huge price per mug.
Good idea to produce a commemorative mug for those who want them (and are prepared to pay for them)
Some counties are giving them to anyone who has been a team member in the past.
Some counties are obviously richer than others.

As for team size, yes they are quite big and there has been a move to reduce the size which was passed by EMAS and then rejected by the teams themselves.

Wow, giving them to people who've represented counties in the past?

That could be loads of people, surely the money could be better spent on say training for a development team etc

we did the mug thing for the 50th anniversary of n.wales. we bought the mugs and the rest sold out on the day to other archers....not seen one on e bay yet either.

n.wales only has about 180 archers and about 6 shoot the regional champs
ours were £3-50

Mmm, the thorseby mugs are obviously REALLY special!
A quick look on line finds mug manufacturers at prices more "reasonable" than the price of the thoresby mugs. However, when you take out the number that EMAS are giving away to dignatories and themselves, as well as the profit that I assume they (EMAS) are making on the deal.

Bet it won't be all past archers! Seriously though, how much take up would there be for a development tema? In Notts at least I have the impression that the squad training was not well attended last winter... money down a different drain?
