Tournament scoring

Ok - based loosely on another current thread...
how many of you, in a tournament situation, take any notice of your target partners arrows (apart from when a question is raised)?

I often pick a man to beat on the same target..by that I mean yes, I check his arrows to see what he's producing, but no - I don't check the arrows of those trailing behind....unless they are cute, nervous new girls who could use a little 'up talk' to improve their game.

Of course you should be paying attention to your target companions arrows!!

If the weather is changable; between a reliable target companions arrows and the direction the flags are flapping you can tell a great deal before you launch your own.

and when scoring - well you should be prepared to check. Many archers are totally reliable, some like calling their line cutters which is fair enough (and the ladies usually are very polite about this and point them out! ) and some who think they are not good enough for a judge to waste time on will not and its nice to be able to point out that the arrow is in the higher zone and why or call a judge over if a magnifying glass is needed.

I find that indoors it is easy to do.
Outdoors with more arrows on the target it is a lot harder but I do find that people have more trouble finding their arrows when calling and pointing (as you should) than if they don't and this always highlights any mistakes and at the sametime makes it easy to monitor.

It's when people don't point to their arrows and read off their own scorebook that I conciously take notice.

I haven't said always, because that would be untrue. However, I do generally try and pay attention to what people are calling and if I think they are wrong (I haven't had anyone try to call a very dubious linecutter) then I'd like to think I would say something.

I am pleased to see such a high percentage of "always" votes.

When you are on target with others, regardless of whether you are in competition with them or not, if I AM in competition with them but shooting on a boss 10 bosses down wind, then you are MY representative in checking that the scoring is accurate and fair, as I am doing for you 10 bosses over.

If you are only checking when it matters to you then we might as well all give up and go home.

DONT TRUST ANYONE

I very often end up as the target captain & scorer. In this case you don't have a choice but to check every arrow.

Does anyone, as scorer, not check arrows that are read out, ie. just listen-and-write?

Unfortunately, as scorer, you know exactly the score you are "on for".

Sometimes it's unavoidable to notice others arrows through your scope so that'll be a sometimes for that one and it's an always for the scoring bit
