I used to shoot in all weathers no matter how bad, but not any more. I enjoy my archery more than ever, but I dont want to be competative just enjoy shooting, so if its very cold or very wet or very windy then I would rather enjoy some time with my family (son has just turned one).

I would only pack up and go home if the wind was that bad it was a very real risk of the boss being blown over.

But hopefully the comp wold be cancelled before it reached that stage as I can't afford to keep buying new arrows.

I got blown to hell and ###### on for a large percentage of last year - I like this game but I'm never gonna make regional or better, so my incentive for making my life a misery again this year is?

I've been a non-starter too. The joy of sleeping in a tent or a van does put you in closer touch with the elements at that "do I get up and shoot or do I have a long lie and see what tomorrow brings?" time of the morning. I am talking extreme conditions here folks, not the odd stiff breeze, or threatening cloud on the horizon.

Yup its dissappointing when you've been looking forward to a particular event, but fortunately the good weather days have far outnumbered the bad over the years, so my archery memories are full of endless days of sunshine and cooling breezes

Team events always seem to be windy. They're either held on a hill or in a valley. When you are on a team you just have to get on with it regardless.

I've got a great selection of new waterproofs to shoot in this summer, so I can guarantee they'll stay rolled up in the bottom of my bag for the next 5 years.
Like Muriel I too have a nice set of new waterproofs and base layers to shoot in this summer, so here we go again

The weather stopped me getting to a shoot once because it blew a tree down right across the road and there was no way around, both kids (both archers) were in the back trying to get us to get out and move it (yeh right mum and dad are superman and wonderwoman)
I won't quit a shoot unless I absolutly have to. I was even pretty peed off when they cut the BTC short a few years back because of lightning, even more so when the sun came out just after. Anyone who knows me will know I don't even quit through pain if I have any say in it (i have been pulled out by my coach before now)

Drop out? Give in? give up? refuse to compete? cry off? let people down?
let myself down???
....because of the weather conditions?
Not likely!
I'd rather shoot Awful in awful conditions and learn from it - than miss a shoot or a practice!

I only don't shoot - If I Cannot shoot - or if shooting today will stop me shooting in future ( as in an injury or possible lightning strike )

I always look at weather forecasts during the week leading up to a competition but will only cancel if it looks really bad and a long way off.

I shoot through everything. Ive been at competitions where I had to come down many times due to extreme wind, and the way I was letting down wasnt the best. I shoot in rain no worries. I don't mind bad weather, infact it can be quite nice. I have dropped out early at a shoot once, but that was because my release aid hand was getting numb, and I stopped early for the safety of myself and others.

I have quite a fond memory of going to a western once.

It had been some time since I'd entered such a short distance outdoor round, so went with kind of a very smug expectation of it being ridiculouosly easy...

And got there, it was maybe a foot of snow and coming down hard and horizontal - blizzard style..

The target wasnt so easy to see at 60y, but the shoot wasnt called off. It was FREEZING on the drawing hand.

The fond part of the memory was us all standing around a brazier to keep warm and my coach setting his trousers on fire, somehow without him noticing...

I always at least turn up - you never know - sometimes the weather can surprise you and turn out nice in the end.

However, I do stop when I'm not achieving at least one of:
1. Shooting a good score.
2. Learning something or shooting well.
3. Having fun.

If I'm not doing at least one of those, then what's the point?

I shot a tournament last year where the winds were gusting to 30mph on the Saturday. I shot sighters on the sunday and when my tied down scope blew over, I packed up the bow and went home!

Could not agree more, the stench of burning martyr can get a little dull when the going gets tough people are failing to achieve any of the above but still continue....
