When do you NOT turn up for a booked shoot?

After last 'summer' most of us are looking forward to some better weather this year. However all of us must have woken up on the morning of a shoot and seen in blowing a gale or rain belting down.

Do you think 'well I've paid my entry so I'm going' or perhaps you think 'I do this for fun and not punishment for sins of a previous life ' What would make you not attend a pre-booked shoot? Wind, Rain a mixture of both?

We are not talking here about injury, family emergencies or not feeling well, just the weather.

Yep Id still go and Im not a mental nurse either! Probably because once in Id never get out! Anyway as Im still learning or honing my archery skills (it will never stop really), its good to experience different conditions especially away from your home club. With the wind coming off a very large hill behind our shooting ground. I learnt rather quickly that 80yd sight marks at our ground arn't necessarily where they will be at other grounds. I put 6 sighters over the top at Cleve York last year and 4 at Richmond as well. There should be GNAS weather medals as well. At Oxford last year the water was running so fast off of the grass that after a six shot end I was 3" further down the hill than when I started. Crampons for this year if its so bad!

I would still go whatever the weather was, i shot at the Brixham Archers open shoot last year (DCAS) and we had really bad wind and rain, i think anyone who shot in those conditions could shoot anywhere

It gets annoying in wind but everyones experiencing the same.

Mananuan brings the wind and the rain and Belanus the sun. I love them both!

The weather has never stopped me, only when the shoot has been abandoned on safety grounds like Penicuik last year.
At one comp last year, I was shooting with a MB archer, who was chasing scores. After 90m he decided that there was no point carrying on as he would struggle to reach the mental score he had set himself.I commented that I have never yet (in 18 years) stopped shooting a competition, and he replying that until last year neither had he.........but once he started, he found that he was more likely to drop out.A case of once you've made the decision, its too easy to drop out again. When it matters, at a championship, you don't get the option. So mentally, you are not prepared if at the first sign of bad weather, you decide to pack up, or not even turn out.

Barring the car braking down, or injury, I would not drop out. Even now, I have had one try at shooting with the damaged elbow to see if I could just manage the Friskney york round. No good, but I will still turn up with Sarah. I have done EFAA classification shoots with snow up to the ankles in the woods, and flakes still falling. Maybe I need the tender ministrations of a mental nurse like LMP!

I did once miss a Skegness indoors, the fog that morning was do thick I could not see the garage from the kitchen window, 20 feet away. Not good for a 55 mile drive across the wolds.

I'm still new to all this but they will have to carry me off kicking and screaming.
I only shoot outdoors. Yesterday (Good Friday) was brillant, this morning was a little challenging, the wind blew me over! Tommorrow they have promised snow. Bring it on.
