I haven't voted yet, purely because as much as I feel that it would be better to not drink alcohol before or during a competitive shoot, I fully appreciate and accept that it's a part of tradition and helps to make archery as social and enjoyable for many archers out there, and I very much believe in "Live and let live"

I don't mind anyone having a drink and/or a puff during a shoot, so long as they are fully aware of the wishes and safety of all others who are in attendance also

I know that at my last county outdoors there were individuals who took the shoot as more a social occasion and did work their way through several cans during the day. Personally I wouldn't as I want to try my best and being inebriated won't help.

On the other hand, at our Boxing Day shoot someone brought a bottle of Jamacian Rum and was shared... our field captain had a few to many and I have honestly never seen anything so funny... still on his second arrow when everyone else had finished, just unable to pull the arrow through the clicker...comes up, draws the bow, holds it, holds it, holds it, lets it down... starts again...

they can't be! I drank About 6 Pints at Lilleshall once (stumbled back to my tent amount) shot with a hang over got drug and alcohol tested during the next days shoot and passed.

I was very stupid the night before a shoot last year, which I whollly regret.

But I put my bow down after the first distance because I didn't feel I was giving the shoot full care and attention, and I didn't want to do something unsafe.

However there's one shoot a year that me, and most of my other friends take very socially - as there's a bar on site. It's not dangerous, just far more relaxed.

Some clubs arent even GNAS affilliated!
Obviously it would only apply to GNAS affiliated clubs, and hence to all activities covered under GNAS insurance, where GNAS does have jurisdiction. Just thought I'd clear that up.

I would like to think that competitors in GNAS officiated events/shoots would autometically stick to the rules and regs set by GNAS, since they have signed up to shoot in the GNAS associated event.

Well, maybe the figure quoted above "Archery (FITA) (0.10 g/L)" is what we could argue about. I think that you are right Buzz. The figure for driving is .8mg/100ml

From an official Scottish publication

There are various issues to consider, such as:
• your body weight
• whether you’re male or female (males have more fluid in their body which dilutes the alcohol)
• the strength of the drink
• absorption rate
• roughly speaking an 11 stone man drinking 2 pints of beer, or its equivalent, will normally be over the limit. As little as one pint of very strong lager may take a driver to the limit.

However, this is about driving, and not about archery. Nevertheless it can explain the varied results for different individuals after imbibing. Alcohol will impair judgement at even small levels. It disinhibits and by doing so creates a sense of false confidence preventing us from making rational decisions.

I hate sounding like a new Puritan, especially as I return from France each year with a boot full of wine. My choice is not represented on the poll. It would be alcohol only after shooting not before or during.
