Took my clicker off just before the end of last season's indoors (2007). I just couldn't concentrate on my draw & reference and get through the clicker consistently.

Since taking it off I've managed to up my scores, qualify as BM and break 560 indoors. I can definitely feel the draw much better now, as that and aiming is all I have to do............ easy really.

I always use a clicker so I know when to let go of the string (and I am a coach)

Teaching others, I advocate use of the clicker where possible, but some beginners seem to have a natural rejection of more basic "requirements" like using a sight and a consistant "anchor/reference" point.

I'd say 3-6 months, probably somewhere around 2-4 months really is what i teach people, thought it often ends up being longer because people go to an archery shop and they tell them not to use a clicker yet and don't sell them one

Personally, i didn't have a good coach when i started archery. It was only when i started shooting seriously in my 3rd year that i bought equipment and had a decent coach help me get started with one. If I'd had more support i could have been shooting as well 2 years earlier

I have voted for always.....and to head NDY off at the pass, I am talking about when I shoot recurve.

When is a coach not a coach? Are we talking GNAS coach?

I like the analogy. I think it works very well. You wouldn’t be taught to reverse in lesson one, but definitely before being allowed out on your own.

in an nice open space where u were allowed to see how reversing works and what the skills are!
