How difficult is it to put together a skin? Is it "open" or does it rely on commercial software?

I was wondering if it was worth getting people to submit skins...

To create a VB skin you'd need the following:
  1. A very good understanding of the way VBulletin works
  2. A copy of VBulletin to access the style sheet settings
  3. An above average knowledge of HTML/CSS/mySQL/PHP/Graphic Design/colour
  4. The time and artistic ability to create several hundred buttons/icons and graphics
So it's pretty difficult and very time consuming. However, feel free to submit ideas and colour schemes here (please reference PMS numbers or HTML colour coding).

Dave

The white one is easy to read
But I like the Insignia
I'm indifferent to the hot chocolate one
A purple one would be lovely

What's easy and cheap, Dave?

I found Insignia easier on the eyes, except when LMP posts in purple.

I always used the white one, but that was mainly so people didn't realise just how much time I spent on the site whilst at work

I'd be quite happy to have a go at designing some buttons/icons if I had some of the main Hex codes for the colours in the skin...

Either Insignia or IBulletin - whichever was styleid=2 on the previous stuff.

I liked that one a lot - it was easy to read, kept avatar/sig stuff to a minimum and out of the way, and was fairly easy on the eyes in terms of colour.
