Rain, what rain?

It only rained once on a Friday evening last year at Dearne Valley, and that was while we were setting-up the field.

Shot at Wetherby in just about all conditions except snow.

Mmm.............. wonder if I will practice in the rain. Keep you posted.

Most outdoor seasons in Malvern, if you don't want to shoot in the rain you won't shoot at all some nights.

Generally speaking, if it starts raining when the field and my bow is already set up, I'll shoot in it.

At your shoot last year we practically had to swim off the field.

We did indeed. It made taking the field down easier - instead of rolling the bosses to the truck we simply floated them.

Actually there can be more to this than actual practice. Being prepared for rain means lots of little things that you should have added to your checklist, that you only remember the moment after you drop your binoculars in the mud - things like " Right now, I would sell a kidney for a dry roll of kitchen towel".

My list includes...

Kitchen roll
A waterproof scope/sight cover (plastic bag and an elastic bang)
A large plastic bin liner - multiple uses, including keeping the chair dry.
A spair pair of socks (yes, I know Goretex boots are supposed to be waterproof, but why are my feet gurgling?)
A small Tea Towel - absolutely invaluable for drying things quickly.
A clean damp cloth in a plastic bag - gets the mud off your hands before it gets everywhere else (and I mean eveywhere!).
A flask of tea - even summer rain can chill.

The showers and wind were manageable, but it was the heavy rain in between that spoilt today. The weather forcast seems better tomorrow morning so i'll try again.
