I have heard similar arguments over the removal of scopes from the line. People will grumble when they are told at a york or hereford to remove their scope, but at a non record status they can be almost apopleptic. This is yet another rule that does not say that the rule does not apply at non record status shoots but it is interpreted that it does not apply at non record status events.

In essence, the rules of shooting govern all competitive tournament shooting, dress code included. Generally, the higher the status of the competition, the more rigid we become in enforcing the rules. Are we saying that a non record status event is not important enough for the rules of shooting to be applied?
I have to say that if the intention was for the dress regulations to apply at all tournaments, there shouldn't be any mention of record status in the rule... Especially since there are other rules where the application for the rule is limited by similar wording, for example:
Quote:
305 a ii At larger meetings, the Field Captain shall be a Judge...
implying, clearly, that at smaller meetings the Field Captain does not have to be a Judge. The meaning of 307a is fairly clearly in a similar vein to this, whatever the intended interpretation was supposed to be.

And it's also true to say that the Rules are not applied uniformly across all levels of shooting. Club Target Days for example, following the interpretation of the rules you explained, would require GNAS dress... I don't think most clubs would attempt to enforce that.

I really feel sorry for that junior girl who feels she may look like a chav, get a grip, if you don't want to "look like a chav" don't compete, other sports have a dress code, so do we!

Look at how often foosball teams update their kit. Even cricket, the most boring sport known to man, got a clue and updated. Why not just have an official GNAS shirt (or team colours if registered) and be a bit more flexible with the trousers? I think khakis would be a reasonable alternative to white and green. Why is this so much like pulling teeth when it doesn't have to be?

What do I have to do to get on the GNAS board so I can start kicking some serious @$$???

You really do have to ask yourself: what am I turning up at this shoot for? Is it to shoot arrows to the best of my ability? Or is it to conform to someone else's idea of what I should wear?

Peopler who keep banging on about cricket and ******** are missing the obvious; they are team sports, and the object of the team strip is to identify players as being members of one side or the other. Archers are for the most part competing as individuals so getting them to dress the same is a pointless exercise, only beloved of someone who has delusions about regimentation and control. Once again, we have this question of the relationship between the 'ordinary' archer and GNAS; who is serving who? Are we there just to be dolls that GNAS can dress up the way they see fit, or does GNAS exist to provide services to the archery community? If we can sort that one out, we might get somewhere..

must say that a line with every one in whites does look very smart.

I always wear whites if the weather is ok or ill go for my green bottoms if it is a bit muddy.

I know that some have problems in finding correct white or greens , but when i got my first sets a couple of years ago , i was recommended arco and i have been there ever since

Sorry to have ruffled your feathers, thunk. My point was just to say if we must wear some kind of "uniform", better to wear club colours than an anonymous white and green colour scheme.

Uni archery teams/clubs in the US wear at least the same shirt when they shoot. Perhaps that helps identify them to their university, but I think it looks very smart. They're not all dressed the same, but they look good and follow a basic standard.

regarding juniors not keen on whites or greens.

most of the juniors at my club that shoot comps look foward to putting there club shirts on and wearing there whites.

May be different else where but thats us anyway....
