The bother i had to try and find white or green trousers for my first comp. was quite hard. T-shirts nae bother. i finally found a pair of Addias Trackie bottoms (white with 3 black stripes down the legs) that look ok but would look better on someone 10 years younger than my self (i am 28).

I would like it to be a bit more flexible with the colours not just 'dark' green but green would be ok. but very very dark Green (aka Black) would be better.

I have a what is wanted now but would prefer to change to something that is a bit more colourfull.

I can't help but think that one of the reason GNAS sticks with the green/white regulations is to avoid the proliferation of blue denim along the shooting line.

I would rather not see blue denim along the shooting line at tournaments - somehow it would seem very unsports-like.

Besides jeans are probably the worst choice of clothing in wet weather, since they get very heavy and take ages to dry. Not good if there's a chilling wind as well.

in my opinion the dress code stinks and should be band altogether. I know many juniors who would agree with this. green trousers are very unfashionable!!!

(ix) An archer who affiliates directly to GNAS may nominate one club whose shooting
colours they may wear. In this case they will be required to show evidence from
the club (preferably a letter from the Club Secretary) confirming that they are a
member of that club and the club has granted them permission to compete in
those shooting colours.
(f) If the judge in charge of the tournament declares the weather inclement, waterproof
clothing worn only during this time is not subject to these regulations, either for those
members of the Society competing or officiating. However, waterproofs in the
recognised dress of the Society or the registered shooting colours are recommended.
I've just dug this out from GNAS website. How long the inclement weather lasts is not stipulated, so it could be the duration of a shower I suppose.
Also colours are recommended not essential.

Denim is very pratical if you dont look at it through the eyes of a snob. How often do you practice in jeans? See... I see no reason not to allow a practical fashionable affordable trouser that everyone already owns. If you look at BUSA photos nearly everyone wears jeans. And that is a fantastic tournament, there is comaraderie and tradition, some universities predate green and white or even dress codes as does the concept of sport. Lets not let out modern sport get tarnished by the victorian snob brush.

Greydog. Yes I was 10C at Macc yesterday. My right hand went really cold. Use of glove and chemical handwarmer helped. Shooting for NCBowmen. Was 3rd in my club with a 678 score.

none of the above - green or white only is I think too restrictive, but 'anything' is too far the other way.

As somebody who is just starting out in this sport, i have been very suprised and interested in this thread (wasnt expecting such a formal dress code). I attended my first tournament, as a spectator, over the weekend and spent quite a while looking along the line. It was a quite informal event so there was a mix of clothing, from the green and white of some of the older members to jeans and fashion tops of the younger guys. The smartest team out however were the ones who wore club colours (in this case black and orange tops, and black trousers). even the teams that all wore green and white, looked scrappy due to the wide variety of greens and even while that prevailed.

I dont see why they coudn't ammend the rules to say that green and/or white should be worn if club colours (both tops and bottoms) are not and then provide guidelines to the clubs as to what is acceptable as club colours (e.g. trousers should black, white or green, no jeans or combats etc etc; tops should be mostly of one colour etc etc; no trainers). This would allow what is acceptable to be decided and agreed by the clubs.

Given this how many clubs would still pick colurs based around the green and white, allowing the tradition to continue within the sport, but not exclude those that wanted to present a more up-to-date or youthful image.

Paper..

Barry - why do you say Denim not being practical is a snob attitude??

How many times do you see people wrongly dressed for outdoor activities such as hillwalking, rambling, climbing etc....usually it is plonkers wearing denim!!

I personally would like to shoot in black jeans but not if it was raining as I would end up frozen!
