How much does the weather cost?

How many points do you expect to lose / allow yourself for the sort of weather we've been having? (Beaufort 6-7 winds & copious rain)

I'm not sure that's the right way to think of it. I try not to form expectations of worse results.

I agree Rik, unless the weather is really bad I won't 'expect' a reduced performance. Even if it is though, I don't think it could be gauged in this way. If I am ever in doubt about how I am shooting on a poor weather day I will just look at the scores of the top archers on the day to see where I am relatively.

I had to put 0% as my best scores have always been in crap conditions.

Go figure.

A member of our field club scored 700 out of a possible 880 with a longbow on Sunday shooting in the most adverse conditions I've experienced for a long time.
By comparison the top compound unlimited scored 858.
Just goes to show that weather need not be a great offputer.
Think I've just invented a new word.

I think you've missed the point (not you MM) - there is a realistic expectation of better scores on days more conducive to shooting than on the wet & windy ones. PBs on bad weather days are great, but not to be expected & absysmal scores on foul days are not to be taken as the end of a career.

SO what allowance is "fair" for a bad weather day? How will I know if I don't ask.

I said 10% because I shot a FITA 720 on Sunday that was about 90% of what I am capable of scoring for the round in good weather. We all know that Sunday's weather was FOUL!

LC, I agree that scores will, usually, vary depending on the weather but I don't feel that this variation is quantifiable enough to measure in this way, sorry.
Provins, I think offputter is a good word and I shall try to use it in conversation more.

I've had a similar experience on occasions. I've shot several PB's in poor conditions (particularily the rain). I think it's because subconciously I didn't set the same expectations so I felt less pressure. More mentally relaxed while shooting = better scores.

At the same time, I'm sure it can affect people the opposite way.

Mind you I much prefer PB's when the weather's good!

But the point is that you shouldn't allow yourself to expect less of shooting in bad weather. You can take it into account in your assessment afterwards, but there it's best to compare how you performed relative to the field, rather than to just arbitrarily assign an 'allowance'.

Personally, I think it's probably best in adverse conditions, to focus on how well you are shooting, rather than how well you are scoring... (scratch 'adverse conditions', replace with 'any conditions' )
