So why would anyone use a shallow hook? Unless a person likes inconsistant release, tension, fatigue and having to use stiffer shafts than they really need? There is no reason in the world to use a shallow hook unless someone has got used to shooting with bad form.

Surely by now using a deep hook is accepted good general knoledge akin to not gripping a bow or keeping your shoulders low??? Hasnt it been known for decades? Take a look at the old guys, Pace, Mckinney, Hallard, Koreans et al

Deep hook every time as described in TA and McKinneys book.

I use a fairly shallow hook, just in front of the first joint of the middle finger. I tried for a long time with a deep hook, but for me it felt clumsy.

Barry, the question was "What type of hook do you use". Not what you think everyone should use.

I remember reading an article on the net several years ago about an interview with Sebastian Flute. In it he states that he uses a shallow hook but could not recommend doing so, and that if he was to start all over again he would use a deep hook.

Deep hook with an Elite tab. I find it more comfortable and there's less tension in my fingers than when I use to have a shallow hook. I also get a more consistant anchor and my tabs last longer.

Well I tried a shallow hook last night and did not like it. I felt there was far to much tension in my fingers, well assuming I was doing it correctly. I think I will play around with my deep hook a little to find a slightly better position.

I noticed Grant hasn't posted in this thread, it must be the lack of 'crochet hook' as an option.
