| Only one way to find out if it suits you. |

| I use the one described in Total Archery, but I have no idea if that is considered shallow or deep!! ![]() |

| I think I use a shallow hook. I start with the string in the first joint of the second figner and let it roll towards the finger tip a bit. However I do pluck the string occasionally so I wonder about trying something more like Total Archery. I may need a smaller tab as the plate and finger space are preventing me from getting a deeper hook. |

| I changed to deep last winter. I found this helped relax my forearm and transfer effort to my back. Though I must confess that I sometimes let my fingers tense up, so that they pluck (and the effect is more pronounced than before, with wilder results) this is probably no more than with the shallow hook

| I tried shallow hook (string in the first joint of the middle finger) but rapidly developed hard skin patches and sore patches on my finger tips, especially my third finger. Changing to a deep hook (string almost to the second joint of my second finger) cured the problem and gave a much more consistent loose. My assessment was that shallow hook was not allowing the finger tips to be flicked out of the way, but was bunching the skin up under the string just as described in many text books.

| I focus on putting the string behind the first joint of my middle finger. As I take the pressure, the string seems to lie in more or less the same position shown in TA, although it's probably a little deeper on the ring finger. Oddly, I hold virtually no weight with the top finger at all, while it seems many people hold the least on the ring finger from the photos I've seen. |

| I use a hook on the first knuckle - any more and I seem to foul the string with my tab... Dave ![]() |

| I take the string on the pads of the fingers a little less than half way between the last joint and the tip of the finger, which according to what I have read here is a very shallow hook. |

| I have to say when I first started shooting I used a shallow hook but changed as I was getting very sore finger tips. With a deeper hook I don't get the problem but I am wondering if I should not just try it again and see how it goes. |
