RE: Units of Measure

You could usea standard#cake as a measure of weight and length, thus simplifying measurement#further.

The next step of evolution in science?

It would have been#good bringing cake to science class, the only drawback, I would have been the fattest#man in the world. I'm quite fat enough without the help of cake

As a scientist I use metric measurements rather than imperial; in fact I haven't measured anything in imperial units since I left school. When people ask me my height my answer is 1metre 94 and my weight is 85 kilos; if they want this in imperial measure, I'd have to get out a calculator!

When I started in archery I found a website (it might have been GNAS) which said 'welcome to the modern sport of archery'. Yes...where we measure bow pull in pounds, distances in yards, arrow length in inches and arrow weights in GRAINS. GRAINS for gods sake! The last time I saw grains I recognised as such I was on a beach! I found myself wondering if an archery club would insist on the subs being paid in groats...

Hah. Lets see if we can at least join the nineteenth century, if not the present one. Go metric and join the rest of the world (except the USA)!

Alright, yes I do know that light years, parsecs and AUs are not metric! But they have metric equivalents!

Question

if metric is based around a hexidecimal system, why do we shoot 12 arrows in a metric round

I think you hit the nail on the head there - the USA has the biggest archery market in the world, and for some strange reason, they insist on using a system of measurement that was long overdue for a revamp when they kicked us Brits out of their country, way back when...!

As for our benefactors, GNAS, keeping the UK from joining the rest of the world; well, my opinion is not worth repeating, but I believe it's a commonly held view...

Answers: a) Always within the speed limit (of course)! which in this country means keeping below the 11 kph mark. My car is one of my few luxuries - it's an Audi (superb engineering that knocks BMW into a cocked hat) and the odometer tells me that so far we have done 121638 km together.

Hah!
