If you had asked this before I joined Bronte, I would have said that mostly, I prefered to shoot alone - and definetly not with womble as he really put me off (probably to stop me beating him ).

I now find the club nights at Bronte really relaxing, interesting and fulfilling my idea of what a club should be about. I haven't scored a round since shooting there but have enjoyed my shooting immensly (apart from on horrid windy nights when my arrows avoid the target!).

When I get the chance I enjoy shooting with others, but if I'm working on bow set-up or technique then I prefer to shoot in the garden by myself so no distractions (until the wife gets her new bow)

Suppose the joy of Field is that the woods are as much fun on my own as with others, be that family or club members. If I'm honest I enjoy it more with club members than with family. The banter is always good!

The main advantage of others being around is it helps to have someone see which patch of undergrowth the arrow disappeared into!!!!!

Awww....some really lovely comments there about shooting with family and partners. I can imagine there are times when you dont want distractions and other times when its good to have someone to chat to and have a laugh with (and to make the brew of course!)

Some days I feel like just shooting and being away from stress without many people around. I just like being there in almost any weather shooting to get away from life. There are other days when I prefer having people around as it sometimes makes me feel a bit better about myself

To shoot with good company makes a good session even more enjoyable and the Cockermouth club has lots of good company.
As for familly ......

My son (6 years old) comes to shoot in the evenings while on school holidays. Most of the time he is fun to be with, but he is very very competitive and is currently going through the not wanting to lose phase. Had a bit of a last night called his arrows stupid because they missed the target and shed a few buckets of tears ....... I think he was getting a little tired.

My husband can also shoot but is currently in baby sitting mode as the youngest (nearly three) is not yet able to be let lose down at the club .... also I would find it very hard to shoot with a small thumb sucking child attached to my leg

Give us a few years and we will all be able to shoot together.
Sandra

I shoot best with company. When I'm shooting alone, if it starts going wrong I don't have the discipline or knowledge to work out whats happening and why, and hence tend to pack it in for the day.

I just love to shoot, so get over to the range whenever I can. As this tends to be at strange times, I'm usually all alone. I know I shoot too fast because I never have to wait for anyone, and I often wish there was someone around to ask advice from (or help me tie down the boss!!).

That's why I've enjoyed the social shoots so much... it's good to get advice and encouragement.

We're not allowed to shoot alone at my club. They want at least two people there, plus you'd need two to put up the boss. Well, I would with my dodgy shoulder.

I shot alone when I was in the US and while it was a pleasure to shoot, I found I also tended to shoot too fast. I shoot much better when I can pace myself with others. And I agree, it helps to have someone around who can help or answer questions.

Don't you all find it depressing shooting on your own? I hate it... I much prefer shooting with others... that way there's more entertainment...
