the other reason i prefer imperial rounds is that you dont have to change the target face, if i do shoot a metric its generally a Long Metric to keep it simple.

I like imperial rounds especially a hereford - this is probably because it is what I started with (imperial that is ). I have only shot 4 FITA's and 2 double 70M but no head to head - so the jury is still out on these rounds.

Got a FITA / hereford this weekend

I quite like the 30m (World and European masters 30m record holder).

Would love to be able to shoot more FITAs ... but being in Cumbria the oppertunity to shoot a FITA in competition without having to travel for hours does not exist. Most club competitions are either Westerns and only one Hereford per year in county .... the county championships.

I prefer FITA's, and I have to admit that a lot of the reason is because they're easier than Herefords.
I also prefer 10 zone scoring if I've got to score, as its a lot easier for me to work in 10's rather than having to struggle thru the imperial addition.

Scoring in imperial is easy - shoot them near the middle, average a red, that's 42. Rinse and repeat.

I don't like imperials because I feel ripped off by the scoring - one of the best ever dozens I've shot at 100 yards was 96. Metric scoring gave me 106. I know that in terms of "closest to perfection" the yards was better, but the higher score felt better.

And the shoot three, off the line, shoot another three REALLY pisses me off. It's a waste of time and effort and what do you gain by it? Nothing. What you lose is the ability to sit down and talk to those around you for five minutes while the other detail shoots.

I agree. Gents FITA is prefered by archers who just can't shoot 100 yards well.
If you dont/can't shoot 100y well, in a York, you've got 6 doz arrows to shoot badly. As a FITA, it's only 3 doz arrows until you get into your comfort zone.
Even with modern materials, many archers feel the need to be pulling 40+lbs so that they can get the sight fully out on the front of the bow at 100 yds, and most of them just can't draw that weight all day long. ( You can tell this by the number of 40+ lbs limbs for sale on EBay)

Sadly, many archers are still far too stuffy about FITA, esp FITA star and this puts off many archers who are quite capable of taking part

Mmm, reminds me of shoot three and score them at 50 & 30 metres. Now that really is a pain.

I don't like having to remove my scope at the completion of an end with a York. Much prefer to come to an arrangement with my partners on the boss and leave it planted. Distances dont matter that much.
