Which rounds do you prefer: Imperial or Fita

Seeing the discussion about the British Champs got me thinking. Which do you prefer to shoot (ignoring ranking reasons), a York/Hereford or a FITA? Please also post saying why.

I prefer to shoot a FITA to a York as I find 6 dozen arrows at one distance starts to get boring and my mental arithmetic is not up to adding up imperial scores

You missed out the '720 plus H2H' for all competitions (the route that several european countries are going down), which would be my choice.
Without question imperial rounds should go.

I've only shot one 720 head-to-head so far, but I really enjoyed it. However instead of a knock-out it was shot as a round-robin, which at least meant I wasn't a spectator from early in the afternoon.

I don't think that a FITA offers the same kind of challenge as the York. The York requires more long range consistancy.

i voted imperial i find them easier to score, as i dont have to distinguish where it is in the red/blue and the odd one in the custard

The 9,7,5,3,1 scoring is not logical when you think about it. At least 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 makes a better job of deciding what arrow scores more than another. Or is it just me that is convinced that I only put arrows in the inner colours when shooting an imperial round.

About time we joined the rest of the world and shot mainly proper rounds. Leave the yards and imperials to the longbows.

Agreed, especially for recurve, and on a really bad weather day it sorts out the men from the boys as you do not have the same catch up opportunities as with a FITA. Shoot a bad 100yrds and your final score and handicap will reflect this, shoot a bad 90m and a bowman score is still within easy reach.

Finally, you do not have to put up with 36 arrows at 30m.

I like shooting a FITA is nothing more than I can score more on paper. I like the idea of scoring 1160, cause I know I can't get it on a York. Plus the FITA star badges are pretty

It does not require more long range consistency. I find my handicap is about the same for all distances whether York or FITA. I do agree though, that the 30m distance should be done away with and an extra dozen added to each of the other distances.

It is interesting that people consider the longer distances to be more challenging. I just see them as allowing random factors (weather) to affect scores. At my first FITA shooting compound I was lucky to be on target 1 which was sheltered from the wind, those on target 14 were not so lucky.

Perhaps it is my Field Archery background that lets me see this differently. A steeply downhill shot at 6M at a 1" diameter 'gold' can be a lot more challenging than a 60M flat shot at a 6" diameter 'gold'.

I've yet to see anyone regularly score 360 at 30M in competition, so it isn't too easy yet. It does require a very strong mental approach to continue scoring 10's after already shooting 9 dozen arrows. Is that not a challenge too?
