Arrow Numbering

HI Guys

I was wondering about something. I read a few weeks back some article that mentioned that you should number your arrows and then shoot them in order every time you shoot. If I remember correctly the reason for shooting them in the same order every time was to help identify arrow anomolies as well as analysing groups etc.

Whats your opinion on this? How many of you number your arrows and shoot in order? For those who do, can you explain why? For those who don't Im curious to know why too!

Thanks!

if I have one that doesn't group with the others I just:

think about the shots, see if any of them were bad,
look at the number (when its in the boss)
keep shooting

if the same arrow is going consistantly out of the group then I'll check the shaft, point, fletching and rotate the nock by 120degrees.
if it STILL won't group then I strip the fletchings and refletch it.

That will fix it the majority of the time, as generally I'm not good enough to be able to see any difference between arrows, and if its going out then generally it would be something major

Same as Kellog.
It was suggested to me that if you make a concious effort to shoot them in order then you run the risk of subconciously reinforcing the problem.

I do the same. I was taught not to shoot number order by the top compound shooter in our club, as he said that I would create problems by doing that. Now I just shoot in any order, and sort arrows at the target.

Ever since I started numbering my arrows, I have shot them in number order. I have occasionally found myself thinking 'this is the one that always flies oddly', but more often than not it's every arrow that flies oddly

I have noticed that I have real trouble hanging onto arrows numbered 6. Either I kill them (with a wall, or a metal part of the stand) or recently I have just wounded one by punching a hole through a fletch with another arrow. Maybe I should not have a 6 and have a 13 instead....or maybe not.

Arrows numbered (necessary for FITA tournaments) but shoot in any order.....except indoors when shooting at a 3 spot face then always shoot same arrow at the same face, then the pattern of holes can be revealing about the individual arrows.

Arrows especially carbons do wear out and the spine softens (not much) over time so make sure if you have say 12 new ACE's you shoot them equally throughout the season, not just Nos 1-6 all the time and the others used as spares or a bareshaft.

I number the arrows and shoot them in groups relating to how they group best

Arrow numbering is a usefull tool when you are first group testing to find any strays in the pack. I wouldn't worry too much about shooting them in order as it's their position in the boss you are more interested in.

The only reason I can see for shooting them in order is if you are trying to keep any wear and tear on the arrows consistant through the whole dozen.

Rotate the group of arrows you ues every time you shoot, this should even out any wear on the arrows and maximise their lifespan.
