It seems that i have been thinking along parallel lines as you Panrixx, have you used them against a club set? to see how close the 2 are?

Just curious on this one

No I have'nt checked them against anything other than the heavey scale weights which are accurate 14 & 28lb weights. The Carp scales are within 0.5lbs when compared against these.

But is there anything the size of a release aid which a recurve archer could draw with and get a direct reading?
Well, as I said there's Easton's scales:

but at £135 they're not cheap...

I sometimes wonder whether a simple digital scale would do, like:
http://www.kern-scales-technic.co.uk/kern_l2.php?prodid=316&view+l2=Select&cat=Hanging+ and+Crane+Scales&family=CH&title=Hanging+Balance
That's "only" £39 ex vat.

Samick also 'measure' the poundage at the bottom of the range (the lowest draw weight setting) but as the nominal poundage stated on the limb is fictional anyway :icon_ques

Thumbs up

Well Rik

You are a star, thats exactly what i had in mind! !£( pounds seems steep but then you see the name!

The other pair seem ok to use as a main check, not too bad on cost either.

I've used a set of Rapala digital fishing scales for some time now. The only downside is that they don't have a "peak hold", but they're very accurate. berkley and Fladden are two other manufacturers of similar products. I believe the Berkley FS50 has peak hold and only costs $20! Of course, they only measure up to 50#, so only good for recurve.

This thread intrigues me!! I'm shooting 32lb G3's now but before I got them and was shooting with 30lb limbs I shot a New National - I had womble make me a 20" longrod which I used with a V-bar. This allowed me to see the target over my longrod (hitting the thing was another matter although I did get a couple of golds!!). My point is, people seem make a big song and dance about the weight but with the right equipment and a lot of confidence you don't NEED a heavy weight to go the distance. (I forgot to say my draaw length is 25.5 which reduces my 30lb limbs to... well you can do the maths!)
