I shoot 41lbs on the fingers. I can pull more and hold more quite easily but dont feel fully relaxed and my scores suffer. On a calm day this weight is quite adequate (I use Ace's) but in the wind good archers pulling more have a definite advantage.(Thats why Grant beat me at Bronte!!, that and the X10's!!!)

One thing I am certain of is that it is better to shoot a weight that you are comfortable and relaxed with rather than trying to shoot more. Remember, the last arrow is just as important as the first, infact in some ways (in a FITA or York) it's more important to feel comfortable for the last few dozen because the target is nearer and the gold is easier providing you're shooting well.

My sentiments entirely Slowhand. With todays technology in advanced materials it does away with needing to have high poundage bows and as you say, a FITA or York round is a long day!!

tel has completed all 6 rounds of either the Archery Interchange VGP or Winter League
WL Ranking: Division 2, 1st Place
SL Ranking: Division 2, 1st Place

As it stands 36lb seems to be (marginally) most popular - any problems with the longer distances at this poundage?

Shouldn't be, with the right arrows, ACC or better.

Both my bows are 38lb, 37lb on the fingers and I have no probs reaching 100yd, 165yd on the archery golf, right to the heart of the green.

Hitting the gold is another thing altogether.

I'd have problems getting distance with 36lbs, but then I have to shoot a 32" arrow, which is a lot of arrow to get to the target.

I reckon I'm on about 42-43lb now, which is much, much easier now my bow shoulder is well positioned.

My sight has one more adjustment on the extension. Good job we don't shoot more than 100yd otherwise I'd never get a sight mark without putting it on backwards, as I'd be shooting through the reticule, or have the same problem as LMP in another thread, i.e. can't see the target for the longrod.

At this weight I'm on the limit with A/C/C's, may have to upgrade to A/C/E's to feel more comfortable.

Mick
Nice limbs the S3's. Get some ACE 670's. You will have no problem with those. Also remeber the anchor point has a big influence on sight mark too.

I'm shooting 36 on the fingers but my release has improved sine last year so I may wait 'till we get back out dooors to see whether I can now comfortably reach 100 yards. If not I may go for heavier limbs.

Hmmm. Looking at the graph of results, it looks like it might approximate to a normal curve, peaking around 36/38lbs.... I don't suppose that's really surprising, though the peak sounds a little on the low side.
