New GNAS Website

What does everyone think of the new GNAS website. Personally I don't find it that good. There seems to be too much linkage with other sites and not enough about club stuff

RE: New GNAS Website

Me, I quite like it. It's structured in the way GNAS is, and so lets you find the GNAS information you need quickly.
However, perhaps if you feel there isn't enough club stuff, this might be because there is a "club stuff" shaped hole in GNAS. What would you like? Have you let them know?

RE: New GNAS Website

A web site is only is good as its content so to early to say at the moment. At least it gives the various groups in GNAS the opportunity to create a UK archer useful resource. Whether the will exists to do this remains to be seen.

RE: New GNAS Website

I'd be inclined to pick two options -- better than the old site, AND can be improved.

There's a section that allows clubs to set up their own details and provide links to their sites:
http://www.gnas.org/clubs/

shining example:
http://www.gnas.org/clubs/cditem.cfm?NID=58233

And, of course, you can always post club news here!

RE: New GNAS Website

All points you make guys duly noted. I myself did enter our clubs details, lots of other clubs either haven't bothered or cannot. I was also not able to create the link to our website which we were supposed to be able to do. At least that is accessible from this site. I'll give them a little more time and then review my judgement. Thanks for giving your views.

RE: New GNAS Website

Ive also set up our club on the GNAS website - there is a specific area to include the club website link, and email link. Clubs are responsible for their own input so the lack on information is the clubs problem.

I didn't bother trying their linking mechanism. As soon as I realised the free form area would accept JavaScript, I just set it to reload our club website instead... Anyone clicking on the entry in the list of clubs goes straight to our club site.

RE: New GNAS Website

Surprised by how few clubs have bothered to add anything about themselves/website link.

Still baffled by what the listingplus.gif is for.

It's a site created by techies and used by non-techies, so there are bound to be issues, but it's a far cry from the old one if you ask me, definitely an improvement. I WOULD say though that the back end (admin sections) are much more difficult to use than they needed to be if they'd not gone fo rthe "out of the box" option.

I would suggest to GNAS though that they avoid blank areas on the site. There is no point in putting up a "performance" area, and sub-areas when there is currently nothing prepared to populate it with - it's a waste of time and bandwidth, and a sense of frustration for the end user. If they wish to show progress or intention, all that is required is a "ocming soon..." page.

I suppose we have to be grateful they've avoided use of "under construction images"

Appearance: 7/10
Effort: 8/10
Accessibilty: 7/10 (could do with a search)

Yeah, and no idea what that listingplus is all about... paid-for extas??
