GNAS medal handicap improvement

We had our AGM the other day and my son was awarded this medal.
18 points of his handicap this year, He's doing good.
Out of interest what is the average handicap change to win this medal.
Most of our members where between 1 and 7 points.

This is one medal I have never won, despite improving my handicap every year for over 10 years. (I even tied with the winner one year, he won due to having shot more rounds at the club than me)

The minimum handicap drop in our club has to be around the 7 points mark to even be in with a chance most years. I think the highest ever was around 20 points.

So to be in with a chance of getting it next year I probably need to shoot 3 1400+ FITAs, so no pressure then!

It depends. This year the likely winners at my club have reduced theirs by 2(adult) and 6(Junior). This is because, for some reason, the 2005 crop of beginners have not put in enough rounds to qualify. The previous winner (one Cakemeister) reduced his handicap by (I seem to remember) 17, but he had set himself a reasonable handicap by putting in three good rounds in the September of the previous year, when he started. The trick is to be good, but only set yourself a high handicap at the end of your first year, and then flower in your second year. Or do what I do, shoot so badly every other year that your handicap goes up too high, then you can improve it the following year - though it does hurt when you don't!

A couple of our juniors are in the 17 region. Most of our adult improvers do not have sufficient rounds from previous years, or are in their first year. I have manged an improvement of 12 as a senior, and am hoping the weather holds, to try and chase it down some more.
