Who would like to go bowhunting?

As the title says really,

I'd love to have a go, and wish it was legal over here, I'm looking at various options overseas and hope to have a go before long, its not that I'm a blood thirsty murderer, I would just love to experience the chase. The chase would probably be enough for me tbh, but then I suppose when youve done that you look for the next stage which is actually getting the 'kill'.

Whats the general view on this from us UK archers?

No thank you

As an American who grew up in one of the most widely-hunted states, I would never want to go hunting. Not to say that hunters or hunting are bad, it's just not for me. As I don't eat red meat, I don't need to kill anything to eat it. I don't see hunting as a sport either.

If I want the thrill of the chase...I'll just go after men!!!

I'm not explicitly against hunting for food (and have done so, and would do so again), but I don't get the whole trophy hunting thing that seems to be part of some weapon sports.

There's the thrill, chase and skill of the strike - but remember that what you're is taking a life. I'm not a "meat is murder" person either, but that's not an act to take lightly, in my opinion.

Perhaps another option on the poll: Yes, for food?

Oooh a contentious issue!

-------------------------------------
I used to hunt when I was younger and like you say loved the 'chase', the stalking/waiting part of it - being silent for hours, moving slowly, finding a target and then just waiting for the perfect shot - it had to be absolutley clear or I simply wouldnt take it.
Quite often I would return without firing a single shot.

We are talking air-rifles/small bore and shotguns here - depending on what we were hunting.

I was taught to hunt by my Grandfather who was at the time a Game and River Warden in Yorkshire - the first (and most important) rule was simple.
One shot one kill. If you have any doubt in your mind at all - then put the safety on and walk away.

In THEORY I think again I would love bow hunting even more - but only in theory.

As I have got older I have become far more empathic with animals. I dont think I could look into the unsuspecting eyes of an animal, let alone a larger animal such as a deer and feel confident in the shot - with bow hunting there is an even larger margin of error in any shot than that of a hunting rifle, a gust of wind, your arrow defelected by an unseen twig would move the kill shot to be just a wounding shot.
And if that happened then you would have to be prepared to instantly dispatch the animal as quickly as possible to avoid unnecessary stress ...so thats up close with a knife.

I couldnt do it.
So I wouldnt have taken the shot.
SO I wouldnt have been in the woods looking for quarry.
So no, I couldnt go bow hunting.

I am however very keen to try 3D Field archery

i voted yes for food.

i dont think i could do it just for the fun of it - it dosnt seem fun to me. maybe its just a culture difference.

i enjoy target enough and im sure if i had the urge to shoot summin else feild or 3D would do it. helli could even just go to bowplus for few hours on the sim - no one gets hurt and everyones happy
