Oh well, I've been "showing promise" for a few years now. Anyone want a coach who knows what you should be doing?

I would also find it hard to believe that a coach that can't or hasn't in the past shot to the level I want to compete at, is much help either. There are too many hypocritical coaches out there, they say that this is the way something should be done, but haven't done it themselves. But you should do it because they say it will make a difference, how the hell do they know? I'm happy to coach people to my level, but after that I can only give advise as I haven't achieved and further, yet.

must agree with the above.

I find it hard to take advice from anybody that has not shown what they are preaching,if that makes sense.

but at the same time, I agree that not all good/top archers make good coaches.

Getting the correct information across in a way which a person can understand and act on is a battle which only a few i know can do.

and also to have the ability to be flexible in their approach - just cos it works for 1 doesn't mean it will work for all!!

I can understand an archer being persuaded by a coach who has shot at the top level. But, to answer the above question, some of them "know" because they have read what these top archers/coaches have said/written. Not all the knowledge we use in our daily lives is picked up first hand. We'd all be living in the past if that were the case.We are constantly passing on information that has been discovered by others.
What's the speed of sound roughly? Did the answer come from first hand experience in a scientific experiment?

Yeah, i'm afraid so, I was bored and the physics lab was free, lol.

Point duly taken Geoff. But I don't think it truly applies to archery.
I have read a large proportion of the material written on archery. 90% of it is true crappety crap crap. I don't know how someone would be able to discern the grain from the chaff without having the experience. Forums are a good example of this. When a post is made on how to set a nocking point, only one reply is needed, but twenty different opinions may be given. How does someone without experience of setting up a nocking point know which one is correct?
However, this will develop into a rant on people saying/doing things they know nothing about it i'm not carefull.

I can see what you mean, and yes I believe you can take some things as Fact, but still I don't believe in being coached by someone who hasn't/can't shoot the level that I intend to get to. Although I'm sure there are some exceptions.

Kae.

I'll buy you a beverage of your choice if we meet. I'd be interested in chatting to you about quite a few topics as you have some very interested opinions.

Yeah but you claimed it on a Bray. Told ya your maths is rubbish

I voted yes because I too am part way through my level 2 coaching. As I commented before the compound section of the GNAS coaching manual is woefully out of date so no wonder some coaches are perceived as lacking knowledge/information etc
