If you mean why I went on a Long Distance trip over Xmas and New Year, then i am awaiting the official confirmation from FITA, but led to believe ok. Doesn't mean I get things right all the time though! It was good fun though, and I celebrated New Years Eve with 13 others from 11 different nationalities!

It describes the target face under rule 8.2.1, and then says, under 8.2.1.3 "for the compound Division only the inner ten (10) ring will score 10, the rest of the yellow scoring zone will score 9.

Then, under rule 8.6.5 (scoring) it says how ties will be decided - Greatest number of 10's, followed by greatest number of 9's if ties are still unresolved (This does not apply to Matchplay ties where the score only is relevant). It then follows that you are not recording x's, which are used outdoors as the tie break (Score, followed by 10's, followed by x's)

I admit its not easy necessarily to follow, and in this instance we have to take the view that at no time does book 3 (Indoor Archery) for FITA mention an x, although it does mention the inner 10 being the 10 zone for compounds.

I actually have not had the chance to read the FITA documents, only the GNAS ones. On looking back, it is my memory that was wrong. I would however say that I have been at several FITA18's where we were asked to score using X and 10's.

I said both, dont suppose it really matters, well thats what I believe, if all my arrows are inthe gold Im a happy man. However different if you shoot compound.

It should be clear from all of the above what the real answer is. A gold is both a ten and a nine. But it separate circumstances, such as imperial rounds metric rounds etc.

It is both 9 and 10, 10 X is also a gold so there are 3 options

But as far as the VGP Winter League is concerned, gold is just 10. I have no doubt that some included both 9s and 10s when entering their scores. We'll have to make this clearer next year.

I thought that too - it was either that or I'm a lot worse than I thought! We are having a sponsored Portsmouth shortly based on number of golds and for that occasion only 9s & 10s count as golds
