Seems a good idea to me. Positive publicity, great fund raiser, I like the idea of a hog roast (I've done several in the past to raise funds for the scout HQ)
If it was close enough I would love to be there. I've not tried clout with my long bow (or my compound)

I'm sure those who attend will have a great time - but that's because only those who would really enjoy an event like that would turn up anyway. I'm sure there are plenty to make it a great success.

I'm also sure the press would like it - and there lies my problem. It's really hard to get the media to take archery seriously as a sport - just witness the constant references to Robin Hood whenever it does get into the press. And they would have a field day with something like this, and we'll all get pushed further into the 'wierd' or 'eccentric' box than we already are. So no - personally I wouldn't go.

ill be totally honest thunk

i tend to agree with you to some extent - particularly with respect to media coverage of archery (the second option in the poll is worded only SLIGHTLY tongue-in-cheekily) and am not entirely sure id be dressing up myself

the TV coverage we got for our clout on easter monday (not a fancy dress one) WAS presented slightly as a look-at-the-quaint-eccentrics article with references to henry VIII and the like (it was part of a sequence of reports on 'traditional' easter events around the region so that explains the angle to some extent)

on the other hand the local paper reported the clout in the sports pages and published a full (if inaccurate) results list like they would for any other mainstream sporting event so there IS hope i guess

'men in tights' events just fuel the 'loony/slightly dodgey' opinion of archery - load of bollocks imho(no pun intended)

Archery and a hog roast sound good to me, especially if it's all for fun! Our club has a New Years Day Clout shoot, where we tend to come home covered in more mud than the field - it's lots of fun, but I wish we had a hog roast after to warm us all up again!

Have to go along with Thunk and John(OSF) on this one. I get enough people taking the p**s as it is, without dressing in the very gear they all find so amusing.

There is a club that organises a charity longbow shoot in fancy dress, and it always goes down well. I don't think that the fancy dress is a problem if it's in context. (all longbows, or for charity etc)

Never done a clout, just got the longbow and to date haven't shot it. I would love to attend for a laugh though, and I think you may actually be near enough to finally come along and meet some AIUK members face to face.
