| the long and the short - TXG's the best On the Forum's I frequent I try to tone down my recommendations for fear of being accused of shilling. I guess I can tell ya how things work for me if ya are on the manufacturer forum. Now I don't lnow if ya should mention other products on a manufacturer's forum so I won't. What this is all about is the TXG's limbs (esp longs) on 21" risers (esp for hunting and 3D). I only draw 28" but I am a string walker so the longs give me a little more forgiveness. This means that for 20yd shots my crawl is around 1&1/8". In hunt situations where you may be leaned out of a stand, etc this can put a lot of unintentional torque on a string even though you are doing your best to shoot on the square (good form). To me this is where the TXG's shine their brightest. It is my opinion that if you are standing on the target line most of the top end limbs will fill the bill and do the job. On the other hand if ya have $5K invested in a hunt and your shot is an off balance sharp down hill leaning a little over to get between two trees at a 30 yd Elk there is one set of limbs that will give you a true advantage........even if you are a string walker. The limbs are the Border TXG's. The torsional stability of the TXG's has been a serious help to me. Now I find out the Border has a pair of limbs that are even stiffer Oh man I gotta start saving my money. For a string walking hunter stiff is good ![]() Are the other string walkers that like to shoot a 66" bow? rusty | |||||||||||

| mainsgtream in the states it is a fact that in the States by a large margin that most traditional bow hunters recurve or longbow use an instinctive style or one of the indirect aiming methods of gapping. with the avialibiltity of shorter AL (metal) risers) and stiffer limbs as Border offer, direct aiming methods for the barebow hunter much more feasible. For me it all started about 20 yrs ago when I had a good tom turkey fly away with the arrow never to be found. I thought there must be a better way. I had shot target with a number of string walker in the late 60's and early 70's. I called one up and ask about teaching me to string walk. My friend tought me the in and out of string walking. We discussed the best way to handle hunting situation with string walking. We thougut the best way would be to mark the serving with a 15 yd crawl mark and use the point to hold under of over for + or - 15 yds. For shots over 22 yds I move my crawl. Today with the 17" or 21" metal risers and border's stiffer limbs it is a barebow hunter's paradise. Now you have hardware options that will let you used direct aiming method like string walking and not have to be Olympic quality shooter. For the last 20 yrs I have been a string walking hunter on a constants search for the the perfect limbs and riser to put a BH thru an orange size tom turkey kill zone every single time without fail. For me a 21" metal riser and a pair of TXG's from Border is near perfect. The only difference between target and hunting is a pair of lamb skins over the TXG's. I am ready to go elk hunting ![]() ![]() rusty | |||||||||||

| Hi Rusty You wouldn't be "trashwood" by any chance would you? I have been reading your thread on stringwalking with a D***a riser and I assume Border limbs on the TG forum and it's great Brian Last edited by bkupris : 06-09-07 at 02:59 PM. Reason: added text | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| yes 'tis the same . I may have miss stepped abit and if so I apologize. I was somewhat unaware that there is at least some anti-hunting sentiment among some of the target archers. If so I ment to offend no one with a post and I will be more sensitive to the issue in the future. rusty -shoots with foot in mouth way too much- Craine | |||||||||||

Don't go apologising. Yes we don't bowhunt here (UK) by law. The forum membership does have some bowhunters on it (including me) but this is basically a field and target archery discussion forum. You have a wealth of knowledge on those subjects alone to share I dare say ![]() Brian | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

I can drop rabbits and vermin with a shotgun, air gun, .22 rifle, snare, ferret, pitchfork, house brick, but get arrested if I use an arrow. The law is an ass at times. And lets not forget, if it was not for the drive of the US archery hunting community, we may not have seen developments such as the compound. Your bow hunting movement, is, as I recall the breeding ground of a lot of modern developments. Anyway, I think eating meat you have hunted yourself is a damned sight more morally acceptable than letting the food supply industry do the dirty work. Personally, if you have never tasted a REALLY fresh caught, non processed and frozen trout, you have missed out on something. And I mean a fish that was wriggling an hour or so ago, you have never tasted trout, because the supermarket stuff bears no comparison.

| well since I can't make it to Border's wee shoot this yr I am off for a 14 day Elk hunt in Idaho. The TXG's are going to be my limbs of chioce. See you folks in a couple of weeks. Grouse season is going on during Elk season. Grouse hunting while elk hunting is just more fun than an archer should be able to have. If you are hunting in the tamrack the grouse meat (sorry if you are vegetarian). in a white sauce with plenty of mushrooms and bow tie noodles it is a meal better the an archer deserves. ![]() rusty | |||||||||||
