Longhsot Match Pro?

I saw a set of Longshot Match Pro limbs on ebay. The seller says they are made by Border for Quicks. Which Border limbs are equivelent and what is the appoximate age of these limbs? They are wood/carbon and appear to be several years old, showing an off-white/ivory color. Comments?

bad news

Im afraid to say we did not make those limbs, We did make a small number of limbs for a Victor model, but that was some time ago. Long before Carbon.

edit: MY MISTAKE! We did make them. Dave is the last man standing in this company that knows of these limbs, The Limbs must have been made around early 80's and do have carbon in them, but not the way we use it now.
The reson for this edit is due to more info from Dave as we have been with Border for the last 11 years. Dave has been in border since 1971, and is still run by coal, and needs time to build up some steam...
needless to say you cant stop him once he is up and running

We used to make limbs for Perris Archery, Carbofast and a few others but there are many romours about who we have made limbs for. Most untrue. If in doubt please gives a shout and we will do our best to set these myths straight.
We have no realtionship with Quicks now, We work either direct or in the main though Wales, Bowplus, and though many others on a more ad hoc basis but not Quicks.
We have tried to help these ad-hoc dealers by holding stock of our products here, so that they can get quicker deliveries, and that list is there for you to see in our website in the bows for sale pages.

I know at least one die hard Whitehart fan who would love you guys to start making those limbs again. However I dont see the market for it anymore as Im sure you dont either. If they were to modernise that bow a bit it mite start selling again.

Errm

No thats not dave writing, it would be Robs handwriting, He wrote on all the bows for 20 odd years. He was with us for about 40 years.

Daves Wife now does the writing, and has done for the last 3 years

Ah, but modernising a Whitehart could change the character too much.

Nearest comparison would be a proper Mini Cooper S v. one of those mammoth BMW MINIs you see blotting out the sun everywhere.

I fully realise that the market might not exist for the Whitehart, and mourn the fact. Everyone these days just have to have the latest, greatest and most fashionable CNC Swiss Cheese-ed MP3 compatible 10 megapixel plasma screened wireless bow.

Better stop before t' Brass Band starts playing Dvorak in the background, and I develop a Southern accent, by 'eckaslike...

All that (my opinion) need changing is International limbs. This would make it more appealing to the market. With everyother bow on the market taking every limb on the market there is no sensible reason to buy a whitehart. Yes its a great riser with great limbs. With ILF I think it will be a big seller again.

Please note I have raised this point before an I got similar response. The worry is it will ruin the whole Whitehart Package. My argument is if it aint selling thats doing more damage. However I guess Whitehart is not a main focus of Perris archery anymore. Such a shame. Another great british brand dieing out. I may be wrong and they may be selling as well as always but I havent seen a new one for some years. Still would love to get my hands on one before I give up this sport.

Hi Schme yes you are right the geometry of the bow means that ILF is a non starter, There have been a number of attempts to modernise the handle even a CNC version but so far nothing comes close to the feel of the original, I guess Tony and Dave Hodgess and Border got it right.

There is still a glimmer of hope that production will start up again but other things have got in the way this year not least opening up a new shop. Personally I am trying to push this along as there is definately a market out there for the Whitehart - British built, good looking niche product built to a high standard which in terms of accuarcy and speed and in the right hands can compete with the best. As it was in it's prime an ideal bow for those that just want to go out and shoot not spending all their time bow tuning and wondering if they have got it right, as it is very difficult to set one up badly so long as long as you do the basics right, perhaps thats why there are still quite a number on shooting lines today.

Thanks for your encouragement.

I am a fan of british built. I always loved the look of the whitehart but the limb pocket system, although very good idea and solid, did not suite my style. I like to mix limbs and risers and this is not possible with Whitehart. Still if it goes back on sale Im sure people will buy it again. Also if border were to get involved again it would be an even bigger seller.
