24hr Enduro shoot

We are thinking about a fun shoot thats a little different. We have organised a shoot that can be shoot in teams, Teams of 4 or 2 or solo.

Basically, get as high a score as you can in 24hours shooting.

We have arrainged it so that only half the team are out shooting at anyone time, and get to pick your pit strategies. Instintive shooting only, (that would include face walkers, string walkers and gappers) but the teams can be mixed sex, mixed style mixed age.

There are some pre-requisits, but nothing fierce, like head torch and back red LED style light required for all archers out in the course at night.

There will be a BBQ running for some time for dinners.

The idea is, the shoot starts with groups at the pegs. starts at mid day sat. When you reach the tea hut, you may change archer in your team. As a team you shoot for 24 hours and at the end of this, the last group will be realeased at 12noon sunday. Groups will be released every 10 minutes from the tea hut, when there are 4 or more waiting.

The info and forms are availabe at Border Archery

Sounds like great fun! Though why no freestylers?

How bizarre... we were just discussing the option of running a 24-hour shoot for charity at the club last Sunday.

'fraid I don't shoot instinctive (unless you provide all the spare arrows ) otherwise it might be fun.

We would have to make it 48hours

I have converted a freestyler or two in the past, there is no reason why you shouldn't come visit us, we could spend a little time unbolting half the "extras" from your bow, bobs your uncle!

Malcy borrowed a little 62" recurve bow from us, and said he enjoyed shooting with no gubbins. This was with a 1 hour instinctive crash course we layed on for him :-)

in all honesty...
We would have to start putting classifications as sights would hammer the scores We have never heard of a 24hr shoot before so not sure on the enthusism levels for attendance. So we are allowing the biggest inclusions of teams without making it too unfair!

YEY! A local

Fill in the application form with team name, and team members and we will get things sorted...

Remember, the less gubbins on your bow the more laps your team can get in...

There have been discussions previously about all-night FITA field shoot in Finland, way above arctic circle in summer, so there's light thorough the night.

Might even happen some day...

24 hour shoots run in europe and are a great contest. There was an exceptionally popular one that ran in italy for many years and one each year held at belfort in france.
If the competition were opened up to compounds and recurves I can think of 4 teams that would compete straight off and many more that would compete out of the university circuit.

We have thought about it... the problem is that our course has no pretentions of being a sight orianteated course. Its half way between a european shoot and an american field shoot. the distances are close. Not much of a challenge to guys with sights.
The max distance we will have is about 30 meters. A little more on our summer shoot. up to 40meters. This on Bear, Elk, boar, Dear and Goats is not much of a challenge to freestyle. But the way the course is setup its a good challenge for even the worlds finest trad archers.

We do appreciate what we are limiting our selves to its just shooting at night will cause a few lost arrows that we want to minimise.

Didnt know that there have been 24hr shoots elsewhere, We hope a Le Mans style rolling start shoot will prove a fun/challenging shoot for those that want to join.

Hope fully some of the Germans/ Austrians/ Dutch / Estonians etc will come over to this one as well as our Summer shoot as they always make for a fun Change to the usual UK humour.
