Advice

Hi there guys

just put a deposit on a 64" black Reiver with 69lbs draw

my draw length is 32" and my current bow is 50lbs which i can draw and hold with ease. some people i have spoken to seen to think that 69lbs draw is to much and that i will knacker my shoulders. is this just because compound shooters are all whimps or do they have a point and should i think anout a lower poundage

Help

Considering the length of your draw, the bow it self would be over 75+ pounds so yes this increase is rather large and will cause damage to your tendons/ligaments/muscles.

Can't help wondering - why the need for such an excessive use of your structure?

Seems pointless shooting such a high poundage when the maximum allowed for target is 60lbs. Also if any of our club members had such a high poundage they'd be asked not to shoot indoors due to the potential damage.

depends on what you are going to use it for crow, i get a feeling you are not uk based and this is a hunting bow, least that poundage will get the job done pronto.
the 60lb draw limit applies to target compound, dont think there is a limit on recurve as such, but you would not be able to get target arrows to spine in that poundage.
mind you your meat will come ready scewerd for the camp fire.

Some folks like shooting heavy weights. No reason why not.
If its for target, like 3D. Then the speed/weight of arrow can be an advantage. Its quite hard to deflect a telegraph pole doing 180-190FPS.
Twigs are not your enemy... :-)

If its for hunting, then your sure heading for the safer side of draw weights. Bit of an overkill for small game but it will work.

When you get you bow and if feel its too much, talk to us, we might be able to swap it out. We would just need to talk about it.

We have a 90lb, 100lb at his draw, reiver in germany shooting targets, your 69lb could be seen as a wee bit wimpy

Each to there own, If you have a big jump in weight on your hands, you could try building up to it by pulling it a few times every night for a week or 2.... Either way if your not hapy get intouch.
