Well you get about 2/10 inch in sightmark for every inch that you bring the sight in.

Anyway, you get 6 sighters, so just go for it!

You are right in thinking that the short national will not count towards a classification, and if you are getting reasonable groups @ 50 i.e. mostly red with a few blue, then you could reasonably expect to average a blue @ 60. This will probably be good enough for 3rd class, so you may as well start going for a classification.

Oh, by the way, many people don't shoot with the sight fully extended, myself included. I have it 2 holes back for every thing.

Out of interest, why do you say a Short National will not count for a classification?

Unless this is a club rule, then a Gent can get a 3rd class score on a Short National (403 for Recurve), at least according to the GNAS Green book.

I stand corrected. I thought that 60y was the shortest for gents, but it is 50y as you say. Found the charts up on http://www.wrexhambowmen.co.uk/html/...fications.html

National

3rd 426
2nd 436

Short National

3rd 403

So it is up to you.

If you can shoot 80 doz @ 50, then you should be able to get 70 doz @ 60, which is enough for 2nd class.

If you can shoot 66 doz @ 50, then you should be able to get 70 doz @ 40, which is enough for 3rd class.

Jim my other half started a full ladies FITA sunday with no metric sight marks and only a 50 yard imperial mark on her new sight.

Get a friendely soul to spot your arrows during sighters at sixty should be able to get on the boss or even around the middle in two ends of three.

Then shoot your socks off!

Last time I shot 50 yards I was getting mostly reds with a few blues and the odd gold thrown in.

Last time I shot 40 yards I was getting pretty much all reds and golds.

At 60, I'd hope for blues/reds and the odd gold, once I'd sorted my sight out.

Just go for it, a National is considered a beginners round and 60 yds isn't that far.

Go for the national Jamie.

60y certainly makes 40y look very close!

I shot a National on Sunday, managed third class, go for it! We're both about the same level in our archery experience and like everyone says you'll find a decent enough sight mark for 60y with your sighters.

And if you do the National not the short then you'll have a good chance at 2nd class as well.

I managed a 2nd class yesterday with a Warwick, I've no doubts you could managed the same.

Go for it!

*grins*
