Although its only possible for Gents to get 3rd Class on a Short National (score 403 or above), and a 3rd or 2nd Class on a National (319 and 436 respectively).I think I've got the figures right ![]() |

| Have you got a chance to go to the club before monday and try a couple of dozen at 60m? If you do, try a couple of ends and if your comfortable shoot the national. Whats the worst that can happen? You don't get a classifiaction score and you kill a load of worms. |

| I won't get a chance to get any 60 yard sight marks before monday. No club session on friday and I am away for a friend's wedding over the weekend. |

| Personally if I was in your position then I would shoot the short national as like you I haven't shot over 50m yet. Its not really an issue where I shoot as we don't seem to shoot many organised scored rounds and I'm waiting till I'm comfortable(ish) at shooting 60m before I start scoring myself. Was hoping to shoot schedule 3 of the VGP but just couldn't get down to shoot often enough over last couple of months to be able to hit 60m before the end of April. |

| Similar here, I've been concentrating on improving my groups at each distance before moving onto the next. I've not scored anything I've shot outdoors. |

| I'd calculate a sight mark (a good starting point is the difference from 50-60 should be roughly the same as the difference between 40 and 50) and shoot the National. |

| Unfortunately, it's not that simple. I think I would have to bring my sight bar in for me to hit 60 yards. It's fully out at the moment and my 50yrd sight mark is near the bottom. |

Seriously I would still be tempted to take a punt at moving the sight bar in. The Short National is in your comfort zone, but all you can get is 3rd class. National gives you a chance at 2nd class. I would also suggest shooting longer rounds for handicap reasons. I know some people feel that you will not score better on a handicap basis, but I found that to be the case for me in the early days. In consequence I moved up distance as soon as I could. Anyway. Take all the advice, ignore the abuse and shoot what you want. We mostly shoot for enjoyment. If you aren't going to enjoy it.... |
