Question Classification.......How to?

OK, ignore the headline - I already know that to attain classifications you need to score above a certain amount on particular rounds three times. I am also aware that you can get up to First Class during club shoots (ie not in competitions).

What I want to know is do you have to actually do anything "official" to claim the classification?

Nope - you shoot it, its yours. Obviously its nice if someone recognises your achievement, but not a requirement. By the by you can get as far as 'Bowman' in club shoots

Of course the rounds should be witnessed and submitted to your club's records officer. If you are lucky you might get given a badge, otherwise you will have to buy it for yourself!

Thanks for the quick replies.

All my scores have been ratified by the club records officer, so I will get my User Profile updated accordingly

Managed my third class scores at the end of last season, second class scores at the start of April and First Class at the end of April (I shot A LOT of rounds in April - "Make hay whilst the sun shines" as the saying goes)

This thread has answered a couple of questions that I had and nice one for your First Class classification.
However, how much of classifaction scores is just down to practice? We have 2 more beginner sessions to go and then we can start shooting in anger so to speak. I'd like to see a third class classification by the end of the summer, is this attainable for a beginner/novice?

Absolutely! Check out some of the other classification threads to see just what can be achieved, and what has been by some AIUK members in their first season outside. Go for it!

i should think so - i started in september last year so hadnt shot outdoors over 30 yards until february this year - i have no real talent for archery but now only need one more official score to get my 2nd class

we look forward to your 'got my 3rd class ! ' boast thread with baited breath

I started with the beginner's course last August so this is my first full seaon outdoors. Practice is definitely what it is about - that and listen to the advice of your coach.

I've only shot outside since the start of April and notched up my 3rd class last week. If you're target is by end of summer, then you've got plenty time - my advice would be to build up gradually (i.e. don't try to shoot 50 yards straight away, but get there by going from 20 to 30, 30 to 40 and so on).

All the best!

levelt, take JamesR's good advice and start shooting at the shorter distances, once you're grouping well (ie six red and gold) move onto the next distance.

You can shoot 3rd class without going beyond 50 yards so don't rush into the longer distances. For 2nd class you'll need to shoot 60 yards and for 1st class, 80 yards.

It's different for Mrs.Levelt though.

You should have 3rd class by the end of the season, if not 2nd.
