funding from an odd angle

Just out of interest I enquired of the county council coaching information about getting funding for archery coaching courses and was told that this would not be possible as a weapon is involved.

So my question is how do the education department aim to supply coaches for youngsters to do the archery sport qualification that is supposed to be available for 14 to 16 year olds requiring a coach or(new level 2) or above to give them the instruction required it would be interesting to see what reply's come from other county councils .
I know that most clubs are quite happy to assist with the cost of courses but not all have the funds available to do it.

Sounds like local authority excuses to me. Bows aren't used as a weapon but take the flip side and a cricket bat could certainly be classed as one and I'd guess is more commonly used as one, certainly if we say baseball bat instead.
I assume that ruling also stops funding for athletics as they use a spear don't they! Or anything involving hands and feet as any martial art will use one or other of those as a weapon so just as the tools of our sport "could" be used as weapon so could the hands and feet used in, lets say tennis or swimming. Hang on haven't I just shown the rules they quote to you don't let them fund ANY sport!
Cheers
David

Since when when did you need a license to own a bow?

How daft can local council get?
But if one council says this the others will soon follow suit.

Apply to awards for all instead. Upto £5000. Easy to get as you are doing "something new" and "involving new people in sport"
Your council should have a sports development unit who can help with ridiculous situations like this from a sports perspective.

Sad to hear your SDU are a bunch of f**tballers.
This was your county council. Any provision in your town council?
I guess I must be lucky to have a very supportive SDU. They have supported me through 3 successful lottery fundings through awards for all, netting £15000 for 3 organisations, an established club wanting to develop, a new club and a county coaching organisation wanting to do coach and level1 training. Infact, about time we had some more ca$h. Put away your lottery tickets, this is the only way to play the national lottery.
